Maintains control of U.S. borders. The Border Patrol is responsible for securing the 8,000 miles of international boundaries in vehicles, aircraft, or boats, as well as on horseback or on foot. A family member Border Patrol tells of a change in rules on Illegals since bush came in..they may no longer go looking for them in the desert as they sneak in. They now sit at checkpoints ..and should a dumb illegal cross their path they may only chase for one mile..
That ladies and gentlemen is post 9/11 border security

Ol' Jimmi' Carter granted Amnesty to Illegal Aliens to "solve" the Alien problem back in the 70's.
Today the Alien problem is bigger than ever, so another Amnesty "solution" will just make the problem worse.

Sometimes I think you are ignorant. Now, I know it. Bush is going to Mexico not to priase Fox but to raise UN taxes. He is go to screw you as you waste time in fodder.

This has got to be a Council on Foreign Relations mandate of some kind. In other words done deal. From Cool Hand Luke - "If that's the way the CFR wants it, that's the way the CFR get's it."

Has anybody here really read the bill? It't not an amnesty, it's an extension to those who are here legally, but the INS doesn't have the manpower to process their extension requests, PER LAW!.
I've been one of the most outspoken, albeit, senseable opponents to illegal immigration and runaway legal immigration for years (including protests on the streets of Los Angeles), but this seems good policy to me. Locate those we can, put those we invited here into a viable system of tracking, and at the same time restrict incoming visas and border crossings. This is all happening. Anyone want to argue nothing's happened at the borders should go take a look at the hours long wait to cross.
The INS and affiliated beaurocrats have a long way to go IMHO, but this actually makes sense to me. This is NOT amnesty, it's what the INS should have been doing all along - controlling the visa situation.

Michael Reagan is a fine one to talk about granting amnesty for illegals when his dad,President Reagan granted amnesty to illegals back in 1986.

If you enter the country illegally, collect welfare, foodstamps and medicaid, you should not be rewarded with legal status.
Offering legal status will FLOOD the UNITED STATES with so many people over the next few years our heads are going to spin.

What frosts me, is that now that it's our turn to govern Hatch will be happy as a clam to back Bush's signing of 245(i). The very things we slammed the Democrats for trying to pull off just a few years ago, we're willing to back now.
In amazement I stand here and watch fellow Freepers who simpy refuse to recognize this reality. When Bush signs, he'll be doing something even Bill Clinton didn't have the family jewels to push through.
Like it or not, accept it or not, the Republican party is adopting the Democrat's polices one after another. Eh, when will people wake the ---- up?

Here we are, running right up against election time, and we are being held hostage because the President of the United States wants to grant amnesty to up to 4 million illegal aliens, people who haven't played by the rules, haven't paid the price, who literally want to jump over those who have played by the rules and who belong here--this blanket amnesty all for the purpose of politics.
He still does.
but the big question is why?
To: Uncle Bill
I think "amnesty" is the wrong word. Didn't Bush strike a deal with Fox - not for amnesty but to afford Mexicans the opportunity to process paperwork in a more efficient/streamlined manner? I don't think it's an amnesty program. (At least Mexicans aren't blowing up things.) By the way, my son just married a lovely sweet Mexican girl. We went to Mexico City for the wedding. Just got back yesterday. Mexico City is FABULOUS!!!!!! For victory & freedom!!!
