No one was fired.

No one EVER IS. It's really high time for Congress to repeal all of our civil service laws, and give the Executive the power to purge all of the chaff out of their departments. It's quite obvious that we're hastening our own destruction with such blatant bureacracy and incompetence as our Federal government shows these days.

(Notice that none of the lynx biologists, nor the spotted owl researchers were fired for THEIR lies and deception either?)

:) ttt

"Re-assigned" in governmentspeak means promoted.

Here's the government rewarding incompetence again. The guys that screwed this up should be tasked with fixing it, and they should be fired if they can't. But no, the powers-that-be would rather reassign them somewhere where nothing is expected of them. And, by regulation, they can only be demoted in job billet, not paygrade.

Keep the same pay and accept less responsibility. Life is good.

INS Visa Idiocy Angers Bush
"The president wants to know how and why it happened, and he wants it fixed,"

This is how Bush wanted it "fixed" I guess. This would be my idea of "Reassigned." Although, truthfully, I would do away with that too!

Well, of course they did not get fired, and not only that, the person/persons responsible, i.e. upper level management, probably got a bonus.

Boy, it sure pays to work for the government, no accountability just promotions or shelped off to screw up another department.

ONLY IN AMERICA!!!

"There’s a real question about whether you put every single person on the federal payroll, whether or not, if they fail to do their jobs, can [they be fired]," said Fleischer on Friday.

But heck, let's federalize them anyway.

Bush: Don't Federalize Air Screeners

Bush Caves - Signs Airport Security Bill

In a shift, the federal agency supervising aviation security has decided not to displace thousands of current screeners by requiring them to be high school graduates. After stoking high expectations that the federal takeover of airport security would lead to a new breed of airport security screener, one who was better educated and more qualified to assume a position of increased responsibility, the Department of Transportation has decided not to impose rules that would displace thousands of current screeners. Most significantly, the department will not insist that screeners be high school graduates, a requirement that would have disqualified a quarter of the present work force of 28,000.

The Bush administration, in the biggest contract disclosed so far in the federal takeover of air-safety programs, will pay more than $100 million to a test-scoring company to collect and process job applications from prospective air-passenger screeners.
