Rumsfield Says Nuke Leak Violated Law!!
FoxNews

Posted on 03/13/2002 8:16:11 AM PST by Naspino

Rumsfield just said that the leak to the LA Times violated the law and that leaks in Washington was a disease. My only thought is YES YES YES! The leaker needs to be tried for treason. We cannot improve our image among other peoples if we are constantly back-stabbed by our own senators and media.

Unknown. Suspicions are directed at a staffer from Boxer or Feinstein's office. Personally, Carl Levin is my prime suspect, but I don't see him doing this in an election year in a state that Bush seems to be doing well in.

Exactly right. One of the reason the FBI agent was tried for treason was that he gave the Russians our first response mechanisms.

Ridiculous. First they spent lots of time claiming it was no big deal. Now it's "agaisnt the law."

They should make a concerted investigation, using all resources available, to find the leaker, then, when found, prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

I would like to know what countries we are targeting. I am not a subject of the government. We the People are the sovereigns. Government is our servant. Never forget this fellow citizens.

Since when does the real or percieved value of classified material make it legal to leak it?

Typical government "doublespeak"? Plenty of people seem to feel "ignorance is strength".

Pinging from a conversation on this thread. It IS a bad thing to publish classified documents, even those that Congress (illegally) leaks.

Since we have no competition in this "Two-party Cartel" & the so-called conservatives are inactive or neudered if conservatives want their views heard it has to be done by the same means that the left does. Let's call it ACTIVE participation. ( Why do you think that we are now talking about a Palistinian state?) We will have to correct the wrongs in this country & quit relying on inept civil servants whos interest are getting re-elected & raising their salaries.

Was it Rumsfeld who said "it was no big deal"? If so, I can see your point. However, if it wasn't, it is to be expected that different people can have different opinions... ESPECIALLY in the halls of Congress! =^)

I'm glad that leaking classified information will officially be considered 'a bad thing' once again.

This should be interesting. Hope that Bush does not cave in and allows those that leaked be punished.

They complained because Bush wasn't telling them enough information about the war. Gee, go figure!
Next time they try this crap, Bush can remind them about this, and tell them to go play in their rooms and shut up.

Arkin (can't remember his first name) is the originator of the article that appeared in the LA Times regarding the weapons policy review. Arkin is one of those leftover, leftist nuke protesters from the 80's. Someone had leaked the report to him (a report which is over 20 years old and is supposed to be reviewed periodically by law) and his article set off a bunch of leftists who are acting paranoid.

"Rummy, never mind who leaked it, can the idiots who thought it up and replace them with some grownups."

You obviously have no clue as to the function of the military. These are called contingency plans. Every military in the world has contingency plans for all kinds of bizarre situations, that in most cases, have about a 0.5% chance of ever being used. That is what the military does. The problem is, no one wants the world to see their plans. Whoever leaked this info, should be sent tried and jailed as a Traitor.

Congress yesterday approved the Intelligence Authorization Act for FY 2001, including a provision that criminalizes the disclosure of any information that the executive branch says is properly classified.
