Attackers must have watched Springer, says Bush
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -
President Bush told college sports champions Tuesday that the Sept. 11 attackers must have gotten an idea of the United States as a weak nation from watching "The Jerry Springer Show."
The television show, featuring Jerry Springer, is a daily free-for-all sometimes with wild on-stage brawls. According to the show's Web site (http://www.jerryspringer.com), it features topics such as "first time fantasies," "angry lovers attack," "bring on the bisexuals," and "scorned lovers fight back."
"They didn't think we were a nation that could conceivably sacrifice for something greater than our self, that we were soft, that we were so self-absorbed and so materialistic that we wouldn't defend anything we believed in. My, were they wrong. They just were reading the wrong magazine, or watching the wrong Springer show," said Bush.
Bush was speaking at a White House East Room event celebrating national championships won by seven National Collegiate Athletic Association teams.

I believe saying the terrorists calculated our response from watching Springer is a far cry from saying that is WHY they attacked us. Well said.

Who is the woman and what team does she belong to that gave President Bush the no. 2 jersey with no name on it? Inquiring minds want to know.

If BushI didn't raise taxes and ban guns, maybe we wouldn't have gotten Klinton. I blame Bush I for Bush I losing.

Right. Our media and Hollywood do bear blame. Their garbage does have a world wide audience. Eisner portrays priests as child molesters. TV shows Christians as venal and corrupt. Our businesses are run by greedy businessmen despoiling the world. Our military vets are psychos. Our military itself purposefully kills civilians. Our generals would unleash A-Bombs if they could. Third worlders believe all this stuff. As do many Democrats in our country.

If it were true what he said, they would've flown trailers into the WTC towers.

Why is there so much contention on this thread? People spend billions of dollars on advertising because they know good and well that what people see, they believe. Our media and hollywood has portrayed us for years as weak, our households run by women, the men are dumb and fat, we've had Springer, Oprah, Sally Jesse Raphael, and soap operas saying Americans are immoral, vain, materialistic. Why would we be surprised when we find out that people believe that is what America is.
Think about that for a minute. Watch just one day of soap operas and think about the impression this must give foreigners.

>Springer and his subhuman scum followers are spoiled and rotten. I don't watch the Springer show, but I have seen a few shows. I mean, the entire half hour's worth, and not just a 30 second excerpt.
To my eyes, much of the criticism of the Springer show is totally misguided.
These shows do not "celebrate" sleaze. Just the opposite, in fact.
The audience (and Springer) are always the voices of, in one way or another, decency and fair treatment.
The audience always yells at guys who mis-treat their girl friends. And the audience always yells at girls who exploit or mis-treat their men.
It's true that the Springer show points a camera at many people the lamestream media would never photograph, but everyone HERE knows the lamestream media lives in denial and exists by projecting fake images of reality at America...
The Springer show isn't something I'd watch regularly. (It gets repetitive, and I just don't enjoy seeing a lot of those people, even if they are going to be getting their "just desserts" from the audience.) But to my eyes it is much more grounded in decency and REALITY than, say, soap operas or anything in prime time...

Mr. Springer and his ilk, like it or not, are in many instances, who we are perceived as. Exactly. It's kind of like the alien's view of the "historical documents," in Galaxy Quest.
Several years ago a Pakistani missionary came to our church. His remarks were eye opening. To the Muslim world, the U.S. is viewed as a Christian nation. We're the Crusaders coming to take their land (they're taught that very early in life). So they see things like Springer and abortion and homosexuality and the rest of the crap coming out of Hollywood and they think "This is America. This is the Great Satan."
And it's not like they have the benefit of unbiased media commentators like Rather, Brokaw and Jennings...

They should have been watching the candidate for president George W Bush on David Letterman...
DL: "You going to do anything if America is attacked?"
W: "SURE I AM!
DL: "What are you going to do?"
W: (Laughing his head off)..."THEY AIN'T GONNA LIKE WHAT I'M GONNA DO!"

You are right! I would be amazed.....your comments certainly sound as if you are merely a bitter, sniveling complainer...

Rush sezs: Brat you still haven't offered a different solution. You just point out what you precieve as a problem, and beat your chest. Then stand in a mirror looking at yourself saying,"I am great!" Bitter, sniveling complainer is a great description for you. Go back to your looking glass.

LOL You are a piece of work! All you seem able to do is call people names if they dare to say something you disagree with. Grow up!

See post 39-DITTO! I don't whine and snivel.....I fight for my position. There is a difference. Do you consider everyone who says something you disagree with worthy of your sophmoric name calling?
