To: All - Update on Skye

I don't know if I am updating correctly by following my own thread so I hope that all who have lent their support, words of comfort, and prayers will see this.

Last night and throughout this morning was very rough for Skye. She is finally stable enough for the Dr's to do some more internal exploration of her internal damages. She had to have a large portion of the colon removed and they are leaving the area open to heal. Of course, the risk of infection is great and they will be waiting for a couple of months before they attemp any permanent repair. Until then, Skye will have a colostomy bag. Her spleen and liver *may* be able to heal themselves. I don't think that these two organs are as damaged as the colon.

The burns she sustained on her face and hands will heal as well and they see so need for a graft of any kind. They have found a new injury. She has crushed vertebrae ( 1 or 2, I am not sure ). These do not involve the spinal cord so there will be no paralysis.

Her broken ribs will heal on their own.

Hallelujah for NO MAJOR HEAD TRAUMA as was initially diagnosed! The swelling that I mentioned last night is from exterior facial damage and burns. It was initially thought to be cranial/cerebral involvement but we are so very thankful that it was not.

There is a small article posted in or around post # 214 concerning this accident. From this article I learned that there was a secondary accident as a result of traffic being backed up. Also, the article is in error is regards to the number of people taken to the hospital. Instead of two there were four. As for the conditions of the other girls, I have not heard although I am going to be calling shortly to see if I can get through to the Burn Center waiting room.

Again, Thank you SO SO very much for your prayers throughout the night and for your continued prayers, if you will ESPECIALLY for Skye's friends who were injured just as severely.

Our God does indeed work miracles, just as much today as He did thousands of years ago...
Skye is a living testament to His goodness and mercy, and with His continued blessing, will survive this trial.

Thanks to all the FReepers who flagged me to this thread. It is good to hear the update, especially about the damage to Skye's head being less than originally thought (what a pretty name she has; may God help her always look UP).
