Friday, March 08, 2002 - WASHINGTON - Rep. Tom Tancredo takes credit for thwarting the Bush administration's last effort to offer partial amnesty to thousands of illegal residents, but Thursday the outspoken immigration foe said he may have been outmaneuvered by the White House.
President Bush has struck a deal with the House leadership to place legislation that offers an extension of amnesty on its consent calendar before Bush heads to Mexico for a state visit next week, the Colorado Republican said. That action should ensure quick House passage of legislation that Bush has repeatedly sought from Congress. It would allow an undocumented person to receive legal standing, such as a valid green card, by filing a declaration with the Immigration and Naturalization Service. It presumably also would require the person to have been in the United States by a certain date and have filed a declaration with the INS from an appropriate sponsor, such as a relative or employer, and pay a $1,000 penalty. "The terms are still up in the air," said Dan Stein, executive director of the Federation for American Immigration, a group that has been allied with Tancredo. "We've heard to the effect that the president wants something to bring down to Mexico." The initial Bush proposal, designed exclusively for Mexicans, once was high on the president's legislative wish list, but it was delayed after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. However, as the president noted Wednesday in a speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, he now is pushing for the extension of the amnesty program known by the section of immigration law that covers it, Section 245I. The president hailed it as a way to reunite family, separated by the border. "If you believe in family values, if you understand the worth of family and the importance of family, let's get 245I out of the United States Congress and give me a chance to sign it," Bush told the chamber members. Tancredo, the head of a congressional caucus on immigration issues and proponent of halting virtually all immigration, said he had blocked a previous attempt by Bush to push an extension of the amnesty program through the House. But this time, he said House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., had agreed to place the issue on the suspension, or consent, calendar, making it difficult to defeat the proposal. The Senate might be more favorable to the bill than the House, expanding the numbers of individuals who can apply, Tancredo said.
I am well frightened of more, & more serious, attacks in this country-I think we all must be.
I am so very sorry for our soldiers, their casualties & their families-the conditions of war are Hellish. At least, short term, we may again see the military get proper respect, more appropriate pay ( I'll believe it when they get it ), proper equipment, & I pray, cautious & proper use from a better class of political leaders.
I think that is about the best we may hope for-along with the unrelenting invasion from The Land to the South, The Land of Infinite Corruption, Drugs & Death.
Our "hats" come from the same roll of foil.:>)
You are right I fear!
No it isn't. Your way wrong.
At this rate, the socialist and RINOs will literally destroy the country in a matter of years. Its already being done before our eyes.
To continue to reelect the better of two evils is a subscription for disaster and incremental destruction of our constitution. This idea is killing our country.
Let the hard core socialist be elected if this is what it takes to expedite their eventual demise. Let the sleeping Americans see up front and soon what the hell is lurking in their own neighborhoods and city halls, state capitals etc.
I believe Most of Americans are in a GD coma and have failed to wakened by this incremental destruction of our nation. Let it happen damn it. I am confident that this is what it will take to get this country straight. Nothing else is working. Period.
And you have damn good reason to be.
DEPORT ALL NON CITIZENS NOW. **WARNING** ANY OF OUR CITIES OR POSSIBLY SEVERAL OF THEM ARE AT GREAT RISK. GET THESE PEOPLE OUT OF OUR COUNTRY BEFORE ITS TO LATE.
Exactly...my grandma told me that she never had apples as a child. There were farms full of apple trees but the white folk felt it was beneath them to pick the apples off the trees so they just stayed on the tree and rot.
Thank god for these illegals....my grandmother can now enjoy the taste of an apple before she dies!
Unfortunately, its probably going to take 20,000 or 30,000 more dead Americans before this nation starts to wake up to the fact that we are despised and hated.
It may even take some of our cities being radiated by a dirty bomp or some nasty disease that wipes out 500,000 Americans, until we start deporting every single non citizen in this nation, and start getting serious with these policies of open border madness, and this immigration "free for all". Its going to take something way big before some of our fellow Americans pull their head out of the sand.
Sadly, I agree with you. There were calls for deportation of non-citizens from the "Letters to the Editor" section of newspapers across the nation within a week of the terrorist attack.
Now that it has been 6 months later, the PC warriors are out again defending the "rights" of non-citizens that are from nations whose government (and people) want to see us destroyed as a nation.
You're a bit more optimistic than me, though....I don't think people's heads are in the sand...they know what is going on and they still don't care. It's a risk they are willing to take in order to further their agenda of multiculturalism and, in many cases, the Balkanization of America.
Your post is right on target. Unfortunately, its probably going to take hundreds of thousands more dead Americans to turn this country around. Its to bad, but it seems America needs quite a jolt to get her attention. I am confident that it will happen, and I can only hope the medicine works.
We have 2 years to come up with a candidate, Texasforever. I am willing to be patient. But because we can't give you a candidate right here and now, you are demonizing us?
That doesn't wash. Even if I gave you the name of Joe Q. Smith as a "viable" candidate, I have the feeling you would rake him through the mud somehow....only because his name isn't "Bush" or becuase he doesn't have an (R) behind his name.
I can attest to that. People should read every single post on this thread.
Imagine, you have a dirty bomb-say 1-2,000 pounds of true military grade explosive & 10-20 pounds of hot radioactive waste. Your Al Qieda team leader or Sadman Hussein, or the North CrazyKoreans want it in downtown ANY City,USA. Just use a few thousand pounds of lead shield, case it up, secure it to the floor of a container ( weight can gross up to say 25-30,000 & no special permits are required on US highways ), ship it to any third world port, re-label it "Process Machinery" from & to semi-legitimate corporations & put it on the boat, & thence on the truck to where ever you please. It could wait years for its final use. Open & activate with simple detonation device whenever you wish. Your agents are infiltrated via the Mexican back-country & find comfortable employment to await your instructions.
Wonder what became of the story, during first few nites after 9-11, about attempted hijacking at Demming,NM of multi engine plane belonging to Univ of NM, right on the runway?? They were disuaded by either hostile lady pilot ( I think she just said no thank you Mr. Hijacker, no air trip for you tonight & drove it into the sand ) &/or approaching police.
I couldn't have said that better. Bravo!
This thread should be read by every representative and senator in Washington AND by President Bush! I would be willing to help email it to them if I can get a few volunteers to help me.
Guys, At least the immigration issue and traitorous politicians ARE getting more coverage. BUMP!! Peace and love, George.
Go for it! You have the Arkansas FReepers behind you. This is our number one issue!
Once again, please respond to post #700. Or are you scared?
Illegal immigration did not make this country great. What part of illegal do you not understand?
