Actor Alec Baldwin Criticizes Gov. Bush Over Election Reform

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Actor Alec Baldwin was at the Capitol on Wednesday, much to the surprise of Gov. Jeb Bush.

"He had promised he would leave the country if my brother got elected," Bush said during a stop in Orlando. "Well he's back, I guess. We'll welcome him to Tallahassee."

But Baldwin disputed that he said he'd leave the country if George W. Bush were elected.

"I never made that statement, but you can tell Gov. Bush to rest assured that I'm not going to leave the country because we have to get him out of office and we have to get his brother out of office in 2004. We're not resting until we get that done."

Even if he had made the statement, Baldwin said there was still no reason to leave.

"Bush wasn't elected, he was selected - selected by five judges up in Washington who voted along party lines," Baldwin said.

Baldwin was in Tallahassee with People for the American Way to criticize Gov. Bush and Florida officials for not doing more to reform Florida's election system.

The state was the focus of the world during the 2000 presidential election when it took five weeks to declare George W. Bush the winner.

The election dispute ended when the U.S. Supreme Court stopped a recount. Many Democrats believe Al Gore would have won the election if the recount had not been stopped.

Lt. Gov. Frank Brogan got in on the discussion, saying outside the Capitol, "I haven't seen any of Alec Baldwin's work myself; I understand he's mildly talented."

That is putting it mildly. The only roles he seems to play are jerks (to be clean about it) and I don't he really has to act to do that.

Take This Country And Shove It

By Edmond Keenan Wynn

MUNICH, Germany (AP) - If George W. Bush wins the U.S. presidential election this November, he may not be the only one moving into a new house. Kim Basinger said her husband, actor and Democratic party activist Alec Baldwin, was serious when he said he would leave the United States if the Republican wins. "Alec is the biggest moralist that I know," she was quoted as saying in Focus magazine, which hits newsstands Monday. "He stands completely behind what he says." Asked if she'd move with him, Basinger said: "I can very well imagine that Alec makes good on his threat. And then I'd probably have to go too."

Perhaps we should all mail him some No-Doz, because it'll be a LONG time before he ever rests...2008 comes to mind....you think he isn't making sense now, just deprive him of sleep for 7 more years....

We spoke with Alec Baldwin when he was out promoting his work in David Mamet's State and Main, in which he plays a super-mega-movie star "recovering" from a hobby detailed below. And, while we were sitting down to talk about Mamet, certain press outlets were in a rage about the then current Presidential election of 2000, which was still in doubt. Baldwin, it was reported, had said that if George Dubya won the election, he and wife Kim Basinger would movie to Canada. The logical place to start, at the time, was to ask if he had started house shopping . . .

Alec Baldwin: I don't mean to burst your bubble but, interestingly enough, in 1992 I did an interview in which someone said to me "if Bush, Senior, were to beat Clinton, what would you do?" and my exact words were, in a very off-handed way admittedly I said "It might be a good time to leave the country." That by no means was meant as some kind of oath of unpatriotic petulance. Eight years later a journalist, in an interview with my wife, brings up that quote. My wife goes "I don't recall my husband saying that. He might have said it." and this German woman says (and Baldwin shifts into an accent) "Vell, if your husband is to leev the country vould you go veeth your husband to the country?" It's all speculation. So Drudge prints in The Drudge Report "Baldwin vows to leave country" which is, I want to say unequivocally, not true. I never said that. But you see, as I've learned, your political opposites in the media are totally lying in wait to ambush you and diminish you and marginalize you in any way that they can. That works well for Drudge, Fox, the Post, Murdoch -- that whole kind of crypto fascist media arm where what you wind up being is something to incite their crowd. As soon as Alec says that then the response from all of the chorus is "Well, let us help you pack your bags. Can I drive you to the airport?" I got email that would say this day after day, which is the purpose of that arm of the media.

People for the American Way

The main people behind the Pickering bashing.

MEMORANDUM To: Journalists
From: Ralph G. Neas, president
Re: Hearing Strengthens Case Against Judge Charles Pickering's Confirmation; Testimony Highlights Problems with Nominee's Record as Judge and State Senator

Introduction

On Feb. 7, 2002, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a second hearing on the nomination of District Court Judge Charles Pickering to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. His first hearing was conducted in October 2001 when the Senate Judiciary Committee had not yet been given access to any of what Pickering estimated to be approximately 1,000 unpublished decisions (of the approximately 1,100 decisions he has issued as a judge). Scores of those opinions were made available to the Judiciary Committee literally on the eve of the Feb. 7 hearing. Another 200 were not provided to the Committee until the week after the hearing.

I just cannot understand this penchant the Baldwin family has for showing their obvious stupidity, lack of moral character and general goofiness regarding political issues. Don't they understand how dumb they are? Has someone around them told them they sound GOOD or something? LOL.

I mean here is widdle Alec, criticizing Jeb (which is funny enough right there) after he has publically joked around saying a very heinous thing-that he wanted to hunt down and kill Rep Hyde and Hyde's family and invited others to help in this venture during the impeachment....Alec is obviously imbalanced and rather sick in the soul! But someone, somewhere, has led this nutcase to believe that he sounds ok, astute even, in political matters! And he believes them! ROFLMAO.

Then his widdle brother-I forget which one-goes on O'Reilly to defend the lack of follow up the so called celebrities failed to perform after their celebrity benefit for the victems of the WTC......and O'Reilly eats that idiots lunch so badly you had to feel kinda sorry for the nutcase.

Either the Baldwin family has a really bad case of overblown egos and feel they need no honest advice, or they are so genuinely fooled by their friends who are prompting them on, that they actually believe they have normal mental processes operating.

Something is really missing at command central in that poor family. Gish. Embarrassing

Alex Baldwin has every right to criticize Jeb and George Bush. I can't stand Alex Baldwin because of his extremist liberal views, but I support his rights.

"The People for the American Way" should not have the right to criticize government officials. They are a non-profit tax-exempt organization involved in direct political attacks against Republicans. They should be stripped of their tax-exempt status and the officials of the American Way should be charged with fraud.

Excerpt from AP story - September 2000...
Baldwin says he's leaving the country if Bush wins.

"If George W. Bush wins the U.S. presidential election this November, he may not be the only one moving into a new house. Kim Basinger said her husband, actor and Democratic Party activist Alec Baldwin, was serious when he said he would leave the United States if the Republican wins. "Alec is the biggest moralist that I know," she was quoted as saying... "...He stands completely behind what he says."

Well here it is a year a half later and "moralist" Alec Baldwin is still here. How can we miss him when he won't go away? Unfortunately for Alec, the only person who packed bags and left town was his wife! Freepin' hilarious.
