Hugh Hewitt votes for Simon for CA governor!
Hugh Hewitt radio show | 2/4/02

Posted on 03/04/2002 7:00:42 PM PST by Aunt Polgara

I can't believe I am the first to post this as an article!

Radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt declared that he had only one criteria for his vote for governor of CA--who would be able to beat Davis.

With great fanfare on today's show, he declared that he is casting his vote for Bill Simon! He punched his chad right there on the show as we listened! Go Simon! Go Hugh!

I can hardly wait to get up in the morning and go vote for Simon.

I wish you and all of the other Simon supporters good luck. I'm in Texas but have been following the California race, and really hope the "establishment's" pick, Riordian, is put out to pasture tomorrow.

If you saw the California Supreme Court ruling today on the 4th amendment you'd realize that even if Simon is elected, California isn't joining the Union any time soon.

It's nice to know I am not the only one who cannot stand Savage. I am as conservative as they come, and I find Savage is no true conservative.

Unfortunately, their ruling is perfectly in line with the US Supreme Court. We're doing 'search and seizure' in Crim Law right now, and the decision - while really terrible, in practicality - is correct in interpretation of the law.

See Atwater v. Lago Vista. The Fourth Amendment does not forbid a warrantless arrest for a minor criminal offense, such as a misdemeanor seatbelt violation punishable only by a fine.

Oh yeah, the decision was 5-4 too. Souter delivered the opinion of the Court, in which Rehnquist, Scalia, Kennedy, and Thomas joined.

Sunday night, Rep. David Dreier, who is a frequent commentator on Hugh Hewitt's show, was on Fox News along with Loretta Sanchez. He had a huge Riordan sticker on his lapel and put in a plug to vote for him. I was disappointed to see such a plug for Riordan, but glad that Hugh spoke for Simon today.

It sounds like a media stunt to me. Hewitt was going to vote for Simon all along. LOL. I voted for Jones by the way, who is the only Pubbie that I am confident I would vote for in the general. Ya, I know, he is going to lose the primary. Win some, lose some.

Sean's gorgeous, but he's not the brightest bulb. I'm from AZ; I hope you guys can pull this off. You get Simon and we get Salmon.

Michael Savage (KSFO) and Bernie Ward are both doing parodies.

Savage's goal is to make conservatives look ridiculous. Ward does the same for liberals.

The discusson on HH's show was great today, and I thought that Riordan didn't help himself in the least with his comments.

Just finished up with the phone banking activities -- if Simon doesn't pull this off, it won't be for lack of volunteer effort.

See any of you at the victory party tomorow?

GO SIMON!

Yes, but you notice he didn't do it out of principle, he said it was because "Simon can beat Davis". Pure pragmatism. But at least Hewitt managed to see which way the grassroots parade is marching, unlike his smarmy Rearend supporting pal David Dreier.

is correct in interpretation of the law.

I think that you are being taught something that isn't there. It's disheartening that you would cite a court case as having more weight than the constitution itself.

Perhaps if the lawyer would have questioned the very validity of applying the motor vehicle law to a man riding a bicycle, he might have gotten somewhere.

The motor vehicle law does not apply to anyone who isn't engaged in an activity regulated by that particular portion of the code. Thus the "arresting a person where a small fine applies" is irrelevant. Since the person in question was not under the jurisdiction of the motor vehicle law and had every right to travel freely without harrasment from the authorities, his arrest was totally outside the bounds of the constitution. The officers cannot even pull him over or stop him unless they are aware that he has committed a crime. Certainly the insistence that he had committed one crime, does not give them the probable cause to search his person and attempt to discover some other crime.

It cannot be construed that a violation of the vehicle vode ( if he was violating the code at all ) is cause for a search. That's not "reasonable." You don't need a warrant at all to search somebody. But you do need a "reasonable" belief that you will find evidence related to the crime you are investigating. The two things (illicit drugs) and riding a bicycle on the "wrong" side of the street are not even remotely related. And it is certainly not illegal to travel without identification.

Pulleaze, Hewitt is a carpetbagging moderate who likes to pose as a "conservative". How many times have you heard "Center-Right" tossed off as the self-description of "The Voice of Reason in the West"? And he's modest, too, ugh.

Sean Hannity seemed to back RearEnd

No big surprise. The GOP hacks and toadies all got the Rove fax advising them to back Rearend. Too bad for them the grassroots won't be following orders tomorrow.

I believe you. I had always heard Hewitt was a conservative. I never listen to him. If you say he's a moderate squish, I'll take your word on it. :-)
