HA HA HA ROFL!
Isn't this the same bunch that promised us the "mother of all battles" back in 1990?
They seem to have short memories. We don't.
Bye-bye, Saddam.

The United States would face Vietnam-style defeat if it attacked Iraq, the country's deputy prime minister said in an interview to be published on Monday. Uh, huh. Just like the last time right? Hope you've been practicing your "surrendering whilst bawling like an infant" skills.

It only took 100 hours to vanquish the Republican Guard and the rest of the much touted Iraqi army in 1991, including the "trenches of fire". I give it a week, ten days tops.

I don't remember the Vietnamese surrendering to reporters. Vietnam was a failed Democrat nation-building exercise (given legitimacy by anti-communism). We are not in that business now. Saddam out. No WMD. No terror bases. That's it.

No!!!...as much as I am against America attacking Iraq, it has no chance of ever in a million years becoming another Vietnam.
It boils down to terrain...and Iraq has no real geographical advantage in that sense.....an "if it ain't sand, bomb it" approach will carry the day.
That stated, I hope America does not declare war on Iraq. Although I understand the Israeli's desire for America to do it's heavy lifting, and appreciate their willingness to hold our coats, IMHO, there are much more inportant fish to fry at this time.

Other than the terrain, the political will, the logistics, the enemy, the objective, and the President, it does seem rather similar.

I can think of three reasons why Iraq won't be another Vietnam: Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld

We have been through this same old song and dance before.

George W. Bush and Lyndon B. Johnson may both have been elected from Texas, but "W" is ain't LBJ and Rummy sure as heck is nothing like Robert Strange MacNamara. Furthermore, nobody is worried about China coming to Iraq's aid. Aziz is blowing smoke out his bum while whistling past the graveyard. Quite a trick really, come to think of it. :)

Memo to Saddam:
We kicked the VC's and NVA's asses every time we engaged them, but Walter Cronkite said we were losing and a bunch of spoiled yuppies-in-the-making couldn't be bothered with a war. Well, Uncle Walter is doddering around Martha's Vinyard and we have a totally professional military now, so if you insist on invoking the "Vietnam experience", well, prepare to meet allah.
Oh, yeah...Semper fi!

"The Iraqis will fight in every street and every house," he said."This pre-supposes that there will be any houses or streets to fight from... everyone repeat after me: J-DAM! J-DAM! J-DAM! J-DAM!
To: vannrox
" The United States would face Vietnam-style defeat"Pardon me...but Vietnam wasn't lost MILITARILY. It was a political decision borne of a flawed globalist vision. "Containment." HA!
The Lieutenant's from Vietnam are the GENERALS of today as well as the policy makers. They remember well and the first Gulf War is evidence of that. 100 hours of ground combat to total victory!
To: vannrox
This is the EXACT SAME thing they told us last time..
Right before the mass surrenders.
They also told us it would be the "mother of all war's" and that we would basically get our ass kicked.
Yawn..

You know what? You're right Saddam. What were we thinking? It would be much smarter just to nuke the place so you won't be able to fight back. Thanks for the advice.
