"Arson, vandalism, burglary, grand larceny, firebombing, kidnapping, slander, conspiracy, computer crimes, and theft. If you think this sounds like a rap sheet for a hardened, malicious criminal, you would be close. It's your local neighborhood animal lover and tree hugger gone berserk," ex-Senator Malcolm Wallop (R-Wyo.) writes. And columnist Todd Wilkinson notes, "Because involved individuals are anonymous, they could be anyone. Parents, teachers, church volunteers, your neighbor or even your partner could be involved."
SHAC, a violent anti-medical research organization that has harassed and beaten individuals linked with Huntingdon Life Sciences, now says it will extend its campaign or terror "to target two insurance companies and some small businesses that it claims have contracts with HLS." SHAC calls on sympathizers to "learn about the targets, where to target them, and how to sock it to them!"
SHAC's latest threats follow a U.S. House hearing on eco-terrorism February 12. (Click here to read the Center for Consumer Freedom's testimony.) The Denver Post writes in an editorial: At the hearing, "the nation got to catch a glimpse of Craig Rosebraugh, a former spokesman [for the Earth Liberation Front] taking the Fifth Amendment more than 50 times as he was questioned about that organization's role in such things as the $12 million 1998 arson fire at Vail Resorts Rosebraugh had previously said the arsonists wanted the fire to be seen as 'an act of love for the environment.' We don't think most Americans will ever accept arson fires as 'acts of love.'"
"Extreme environmental groups such as the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) are laying siege to legitimate business and medical research," writes Wallop. "Their illegal actions have cost citizens millions of dollars. Are you outraged? Wake up America -- your neighborhoods are riddled with home-grown terrorists."

Here's an "act of love" arson fire for you ELF Boy!
Any Techies out there have an update?
Hmm. Do you think they might accept them as "collateral damage" in the effort to enhance "cooperative partnerships and projects to inventory, monitor, protect and restore forest, grassland and aquatic habit for fish, wildlife and plant resources in the United States and abroad."? Under an agreement signed by the Forest Service and The Nature Conservancy (the largest environmental organization in the U.S., assets over $1 billion http://www.prfamerica.org/NYsNaturalHeritageProgram.html ) would use "prescribed burning as a conservation tool to protect ecosystems, watersheds, and communities; partner in efforts to combat the spread of harmful aquatic and terrestial invasive species, and work jointly to protect habitat for migratory bird species." http://www.prfamerica.org/TNC-USDA-JoinForces.html
Another FReeper (I cannot remember who, but I have a print-out somewhere around here) said that the Los Alamos fire was the result of an attempt to restore grasslands.
The Nature Conservancy is one of the groups that is party to the radical environmental agenda known as the Wildlands Project. http://www.wildlandsprojectrevealed.org and http://www.twp.org ). There are a lot of inholders on public lands who would be harmed if these prescribed burns got out of control (a good possibility if the burn took place in drought conditions). If they were not insured, they most likely would sell their land (possibly to the Nature Conservancy) at fire sale prices. Neat back door attempt at rural cleansing?
