CAUSE OF GIRL'S DEATH COULD REMAIN MYSTERY

Police say they may never know how Danielle van Dam died, or when. The seven-year-old girl disappeared from her San Diego home February first. Authorities are now confirming that a child's body found by volunteer searchers Wednesday is that of the missing child. The district attorney says an autopsy performed confirmed her identity yesterday. The identification was made through dental records because of the condition of the body. Medical examiners are trying to determine the cause of death, but Police Chief Dave Bejerano says it's possible that we'll never know how, or when she was killed. A neighbor has been charged with kidnapping and murdering her. Authorities say they found the girl's blood on his clothing and in his motor home. He has pleaded innocent.

this is conjecture, but I assume he meant that the father could have FRAMED Westerfield because he was jealous that Westerfield was seeing too much of his wife during the day while the father was away at work.

He felt the parents lacked emotion, and said he was put off by what he described as their repeated rehearsals before facing the media. The van Dams and several advisers plan what the parents say and how they look on television and in newspapers, Pierce said. "They were talking about their makeup and how they look in the camera," he added. Pierce said the van Dams' two sons, 5 and 10, should be taken from the home while police search for Danielle.

Although he found no evidence to believe the van Dams are tied directly to their daughter's disappearance, Pierce said he decided to ask for outside protection for the children after observing the family, its public-relations team and a journal entry by Danielle that he said suggested conflict with her father. Pierce said he was shocked when Brenda van Dam showed him Danielle's journal. " 'Daddy, please forgive me,' " Pierce said one entry read. " 'Daddy please love me. Danielle.' " "After my personal observation, I'm asking for a wake-up call from the San Diego Police Department to investigate the family," Pierce said.

Pierce's comments enraged the van Dams.

"Douglas Pierce is some kind of freak who came into our house," Damon van Dam told a Los Angeles radio station Thursday. He called Pierce "evil." "He is trying to start trouble for us," Brenda van Dam said. "We did not invite him into our house."

If the guy they arrested was innocent - he would have screamed for a lie detector test and his attorney would have made damn sure the results were known loud and clear to the media.

This thread is the first that I had heard of the parents extramarital activities (swinging) but if they were into that stuff, it was no secret and their priorities certainly were not on their kids if they were entertaining and partying instead of looking after their kids. My spouse and my evenings are spent where they should be - playing with our son. Heck our son has slept right between us since his birth - we always know where he is at. And there isn't a 5 minute range where my "mom's radar" doesn't pick up where he is at in the house.

Even when he is at play outside - we have the yard "bad guy" proof with a 1/2 chow and full blooded rottweiler in a fenced yard for him to play. Basically, our house, our life is centered around our child's safety and once my son starts sleeping in his own room I darn sure will have extra locks on the windows and he'll still have a guard dog sleeping with him.

If something happened to my son, my own life would be meaningless. I have no time for drugging or drinking or screwing strangers and have no tolerance for those who do this with kids to raise. IF (and I don't know for sure) they were into this crap - it just bred an atomsphere for a perverted neighbor to take advange of because you can't keep that type of behavior secret from the neighbors. May God rest that poor child's soul.

This story seems to be bringing out some of the worse comments I've ever heard by Freepers. It is truly disgusting, especially during a fund drive!

I remember Brenda taking her daughter, who must have been a Brownie, out in the neighborhood to sell Girl Scout cookies. These vultures never mention the activities the parents did that were good - because that would dispute their SICK assumptions, based on innuendos and gossip. Gossip is a SIN!

Many of the things you've pointed out I had been thinking.Because....
When I was a child growing up, there were two neighbor girls being raised by a single mom. I became quite close to them. As adults it became known that their mother was not only selling herself, but her daughters. (They were not much older than this child when it all bagan.) NO ONE; not teachers, neighbors, clergy, friends suspected anything was out of the ordinary in that home.
We know something is not right in the VD home. It MUST be investigated!
