CAUSE OF GIRL'S DEATH COULD REMAIN MYSTERY
Police say they may never know how Danielle van Dam died, or when. The seven-year-old girl disappeared from her San Diego home February first. Authorities are now confirming that a child's body found by volunteer searchers Wednesday is that of the missing child. The district attorney says an autopsy performed confirmed her identity yesterday. The identification was made through dental records because of the condition of the body. Medical examiners are trying to determine the cause of death, but Police Chief Dave Bejerano says it's possible that we'll never know how, or when she was killed. A neighbor has been charged with kidnapping and murdering her. Authorities say they found the girl's blood on his clothing and in his motor home. He has pleaded innocent.

Excellent post on #457.

They have mentioned the necklace was plastic. It is probably like the ones I saw these last year at the school carnival they gave as prizes, and the girls were all wearing them. They are cheap and toy like from a bubble gum machine. They stretch and can be used as a hair band too. So, I have not thought much of the choker thing. However, I think there is more to this whole story, because of the changing stories on the parents end. With all the DNA evidence pointing to DW, why is this guy pleading not guilty?

I'm not sure if I was clear in my post re the Italy trip. They were supposed to leave for Italy on February 13 or something like that and the trip had been planned quite some before the abduction.

Assuming for the moment the DNA testing is accurate are they going to say the cops or Van Dams planted it perhaps. Can the tests performed to date discriminate between the DNA of mother and daughter?

And the Van Dams had someone other than Westerfield take the body away after framing him up? They did it themselves at some point?
Yes just speculating.

I think so.

This story seems to be bringing out some of the worse comments I've ever heard by Freepers. It is truly disgusting, especially during a fund drive! I remember Brenda taking her daughter, who must have been a Brownie, out in the neighborhood to sell Girl Scout cookies. These vultures never mention the activities the parents did that were good - because that would dispute their SICK assumptions, based on innuendos and gossip. Gossip is a SIN!

It's not as ridiculous as the one you followed with.

Anything is possible. Perhaps not probable; but possible.
Do you know where Damon was the entire night until he got up at 1:30 am to find the door ajar? Has one single person vouched for his constant whereabouts that evening? Were you there?
If I'm following it correctly, he had from somewhere around 10:00 pm until 1:30 am to be doing whatever he pleased. Are you willing to declare unequivocally that he never left the house?
To: Southflanknorthpawsis
They were awfully, perhaps even unusually quick, to rule them out. It may prove to be a mistake; either for reasons of culpability or simply for giving the defense the complant of a "rush to judgment". Yes, they were very quick, but it could also mean that as yet unreleased information/evidence was overwhelmingly pointing two doors down.
I am hoping that the warrant affidavits (sp?) will give us a much bigger picture than we have now.
Hope I don't have to wait for Ann Rule or Mark Fuher (can't spell his name either) to write a book to spell it out for me.

Then get the hell off the thread, please. If you think that some six threads and hours upon hours of internet searches and days of picking apart alibis and statements is gossip, go find a relevent thread to your liking. Leave me the hell alone.

"Are you willing to declare unequivocally that he never left the house?"
No but I can state unequivocally that Westerfield did leave his house, and has alot of explaining to do about his actions on his desert trip.

I am hoping that the warrant affidavits (sp?) will give us a much bigger picture than we have now.It may tell us more but likely still leave many unanswered questions. *SIGH* This is going to be a long haul.
