That little post/essay is still valid today. We just need a more regular monthly donors to insure that Free Republic is around to help us win the cultural war with the Dark Side.

I would rephrase that to say, "Donating to Free Republic is the best investment we can make for us, our family and our friends!"

It will be very easy for you to say, "Well, I will do something, some day. When I can afford it, I am going to." But would you let an old "grad" tell you one thing now? Giving is a habit. Get into the habit now, because you will never be able to afford to give and contribute, thus to repay the obligation you owe to those people who made this college possible, if you wait until you think you can afford it. Start now regardless of how small, and in the days to come when you are confronted with demands for many worthwhile causes and charities I think you will find that you will give dutifully to all the worthy ones.
President Reagan was talking about paying back as an Alma Mater re your college.
Paying back what has been given/loaned to us while on earth is one of the true signs of maturity!
The day that we wake up and realize that there is no free lunch in our churches, other good organizations and of course Free Republic is a big step in maturity.
The next step is to pledge/vow/promise to pay back on a regular basis to your church, favorite charities and Free Republic.
Then the first real step is pick a monthly amount that you can afford as your first step on the road to pay back.

Glock Rocks has posted that by giving up just one pizza per month, you can very easily meet and exceed that $5/month pledge to Free Republic.
Free Republic insures us that we can get the real news. We can read the real news stories spiked by the left wing maggots. We can read the real stories not the prop spin agendas of the left posing as news. Then we learn from the group wisdom of the conservatives on Free Republic re their posts on each thread!
Then, Free Republic enables us to act on the news to win a battle in the 24/7/365 Culural War with the left.
Jeff Head's petition to stop the Diversity Criminals from revising the history of the flag raising at the WTC is a prime example of the power of Free Republic.
Don't look at your pledge to Free Republic as a donation.
Look at your monthly pledge as an investment in the 24/7/365 Cultural War with the left.
I look at my monthly pledge like the War bonds we used to buy in WWII to defeat the Evil Axis at that time. The left is the just a new form of that Evil Axis!
We need Free Republic to fight the Cultural War with the Axis of Whining Weasels of the left's Evil Axis in America!

The Free Republic reaches around the world.
I can only dream what would happen in the evil empires, when they are defeated and two things happen:
1. The freed people can sign on to the internet and get their news and information from Free Republic, and they become regular donors.
2. The local evil axis tv news is replaced by foreign versions of Fox News via satellite. Then they get the real news instead of the hate America news.
The end result would be no more Assads, Saddams, or OBL's in that part of the world!
