80,000 Freepers and Growing - Freepathon

When Jim Robinson started Free Republic in September, 1996 to expose the corruption in government and particularly the Clinton Whitehouse, he was alone. Now six years later, Free Republic has 80,000 registered members and who knows how many visit this site often, just to keep up on the latest conservative thinking.

Folks, you all know where this is going, Free Republic is a user supported website and it is time to support it. Four times a year we have this freepathon to donate a few dollars to pay for the bandwidth and expenses necessary to keep Free Republic online, and we do so with gratitude and cheer because of what is offered and accomplished by the existence of Free Republic.

Free Republic does not charge a membership fee or get supported by a government grant. No, people from across the World make donations large and small because they see the value of Free Republic. The Pictures posted on this thread are indeed very beautiful.

HOWEVER. they take a long time to load and because of that we are losing some particpation. I have a cable modem and it still takes quite awhile compared to the instant loading of threads without them.

Freepers who rely on telephone line modems are moving on to other threads where they don't have to wait forever for a refresh.

Please hold this to a minimum.

My comment was not specificly aimed at you. Lots of Freepers like to show their ability to post pictures and the pictures are very nice.There is just a price we have to pay , especially when we get a lot of them. Graphic pics don't slow us down, but actual photographs do.

I sure do not want to offend anyone.

Thanks for the reminder, BADJOE. I, for one, am forced to be on dialup, which works just fine except for quick loads of pictures. The lucky folks on faster service tend to forget about our situation, I think. Whenever someone links to a picture, I always click and enjoy their efforts.

Keep posting your graphics. They don't hurt anything. It is the actual photographs that slow things down.
