WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush invited Mel Gibson to the White House on Tuesday to take in the Hollywood star's new film about a historic battle in the Vietnam War.

His movie, "We Were Soldiers," about a Nov. 14, 1965, battle in Vietnam's Ia Drang Valley, before the terror attacks in the United States and the ensuing war on terrorism.

I'll say the same thing about Mel that my 17 year old granddaughter did - "Mel's a total babe".

And he's a conservative too!

"I don't like feminists and they don't like me."

One of my favorite Mel Gibson quotes. ;) Anyway, I hope President Bush, Rice, and Rumsfeld enjoy the movie. Though I'm a bit jealous as I won't be going to see it til this sunday while they get to see it tonight. As for Gibson, he's one of the few actors that I'd consider myself a fan of, and am sure he'll do a great job in this movie. And of course, Madeleine Stowe is a babe. *drool*

BTW: Does anyone know how historically accurate this movie is? "Black Hawk Down" packed a bit of extra punch for me due to its realistic portrayal. Will "We Were Soldiers" be true to the events, or will we see history being re-written the way it was in "Braveheart"? (not that Braveheart wasn't great. I just don't look at that as a faithful retelling of history)

...T'was a pleasure last night telling folks watching the entrance of IA DRANG-1965 Heroes and those who portrayed them at last night's Los Angeles Premiere of ..'WE WERE SOLDIERS'.. in Westwood pictured on this MEL GIBSON Thread...

...just what Heroic Human History they were seeing before their very eyes.

...Even greater pleasure came when some of those I was identifying to the folks waiting to see ..'WE WERE SOLDIERS'.. were kind enough to come right on over to say .."ALOHA".. ...Sgt/Major BASIL PLUMLEY (Sam Elliott), JOE GALLOWAY (Barry Pepper), RANDALL WALLACE (Himself) and Keri Russel who plays Mrs. JACK GEOGHAGEN.

...In congratulating KERI RUSSELL in her portrayal of a new Widow at Home reading Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE's -Letter of Condalance- sent to her I recalled how things have now come full circle ..ALL IN GOD's PLAN.. as at the time MOORE hand wrote up that Letter ..I as his IA DRANG-1965 S-1 Personnel Clerk typed it up for mailing to her.

...See ..'IA DRANG Misc'.. under ..'Movie Updates'.. at the bottom of the ..Home Page.. of our IA DRANG-1965 Website...

Daisy's picture is the blow up of the pic on this thread, but very nice....still...where's the pic of President Bush and Mel? Why do I suspect that Hollywood/press children don't want our President to have such a positive photo-op? Hmmmm? Now, MeeknMing posted the GW-Gladiator pic a few threads back. LOL!

Speaking of molasses, I'm baking giant molasses cookies tomorrow, what a coincidence.* Our temps in SW Fla. are heading south into the 50s. Brrr!

*Not Mel, but chewy and available. (^:

I recalled how things have now come full circle ..ALL IN GOD's PLAN

I have had the pleasure of helping in prepublication work for Aid and Comfort: Jane Fonda in North Vietnam by Hank and Erika Holzer. Hank Holzer will appear on The O'Reilly Factor a week from tomorrow, Wednesday, March 6. The book is a thoroughly documented treason indictment of Jane Fonda for her 1972 radio broadcasts from Hanoi.

I have had occasion to visit many veteran and combat unit sites, and read the first-hand accounts of the brave men and women who served in Vietnam. Their service will be recognized in We Were Soldiers, Aid and Comfort, and more, as we enter a new, clean era.

I've only seen the trailer for Mel Gibson's new movie before a showing of Blackhawk Down, but it's huge.

Mel Gibson has shown his stuff many times, from Braveheart to The Patriot and in any number of subtle, understated asides.

Told that Hillary was "disappointed" that he showed a "bad example to young people" by smoking in movies, he replied, "I'll quit smoking when she and her husband quit fibbing." This at a time when the media was throwing flower petals and virtual beejays at their Satanic Majesties.

Bush invites Mel Gibson to a new, clean White House for a screening of a Showcase American Braveheart-Patriots movie.

These are the good days.
