The Gush Etzion city of Efrat, south of Jerusalem, commemorated its own "Purim miracle" today, when a suicide terrorist blew himself up in a crowded supermarket - wounding only one person lightly. Shomron and Yehuda District Police Chief Shachar Ayalon praised the Efrat residents, who he said "acted quickly to kill the terrorist, evacuate people from the store, and close off the area until the security forces arrived. 

There is no doubt that they prevented a very big catastrophe." The terrorist managed to blow up one small bomb, but he was killed before he could detonate the large explosive that he wore on his body. 
Security forces spent several hours dismantling the bomb. Residents said that the would-be mass-murderer was a familiar face in Efrat, and that as a construction worker, his name was on the official list of those approved for entry. He was from a village south of Bethlehem, and was not associated with any terrorist organization. His father said that he was "proud" of him. 

Efrat's Chief Rabbi Shlomo Riskin later said, "I always believed in co-existence, but to my sorrow, I have now reached the conclusion that at this point, there is no room for -coexistence, as long as there is incitement on the other side. We are at war, and we have to show them that they cannot beat us - only then can there be peace, and only then we will be able to rehabilitate the relations between us and the Palestinians." 

The Efrat town council decided today not to allow Arab workers into the town for the next several days, until "the situation can be re-evaluated." Hisdai Eliezer, Mayor of Alfei Menashe and head of the security committee of Judea and Samaria, said, "The residents among us who have long-term relationships with Arabs, and who trust them 100%, should begin to realize that the situation has changed, and that there can be no trust."

"Residents of Gush Katif decided to take matters into their own hands," said local Rabbi Yosef Al-Nekaveh yesterday, "and when we were involved in evacuating the bodies of the three murdered Israelis [at the Kisufim attack this past Monday night], they placed pig fat and pigskin on the body of the dead terrorist." He said that a "right-wing kibbutznik" had supplied them with the swinish tissues.

Arab MKs responded with outrage. Ahmed Tibi said, ""This is a pig-like act of a man who is not worthy of being a rabbi," while Abdel Malek Dahamshe added, "The ethical inferiority and lowliness that the settlers have reached is intolerable. This is an act of first-degree desecration of God's name... It is especially shocking to think that a rabbi did this." 

On the other side of the spectrum, MK Tzvi Hendel said, "If these primitive murderers stuff their brains with nonsense about Paradise and who-knows-how-many virgins waiting only for them, then they certainly believe in the other nonsense that being buried with pigskin blocks their way to Paradise."

Efrat Resident Saves Many Lives Suicide Bombing Attack Thwarted

(22 February 2002 10:20) A short time after 8:00am this morning, an Arab laborer entered a supermarket in the main shopping center of the Gush Etzion community of Efrat. He made his way to the rear of the store where he placed a bomb. 

He then headed back towards the front of the store followed by the bomb exploding seconds later. Resident, Lou Davis, carrying a licensed weapon, pieced the events together immediately as the terrorist began firing at shoppers. 

He drew his weapon and shot the terrorist in the head, killing him. It was learned immediately thereafter the terrorist was carrying a second explosive device on his person, apparently intended for phase two of the fatal attack that was thwarted. 

One woman was injured slightly in a leg from running from the terrorist as well as becoming hysterical. She was transported to Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem neighborhood where she is reported in light condition. 

The Efrat rapid response team was immediately activated and the community shutdown in compliance with standard operating procedure. Police bomb experts arrived and began dealing with the second bomb on the dead terrorist’s body while the store and area were combed for additional explosive devices. 

Police indicated that it appears the first bomb only detonated in part, accounting for the miraculous outcome. 

The Efrat security officer Uri Schechter has confirmed the terrorist was ‘cleared’ to work in construction in Efrat, as is the case with many PA residents in most Yesha communities. Supermarket manager Eli Shiran reports the store was quite busy with shoppers preparing for the Sabbath. 

Following Saturday night’s fatal suicide bombing attack in the pizzeria in the Shomron community of Karnei Shomron, the Efrat Council voted to close the community to Arab laborers for two weeks to reevaluate the situation. The mayor and his deputy left for a trip abroad and council members who opposed closing the community to Arab unilaterally overrode the decision and permitted the laborers to enter one again. 

Last Saturday night, two 15-year-old residents were killed and 30 innocent persons, mostly youths and children, were wounded in the attack when a lone bomber detonated an explosive device in the pizza shop. Some of the wounded remain in critical and serious condition. 

Residents who were in the store stated that for Efrat, the day will be remembered as one on which a miracle occurred in the Gush Etzion community.

The only disagreement I have is your comment re them having the stones to video tape this brutal murder.

Having stones is what GW has shown in his stances against these murdering fanatics, and you and I stating where we are on this issue.

Video taping a brutal murder that cowards and fellow butchers do to an innocent individual does not require stones. It just requires a mentally ill mind that needs to be wiped out!

As usual re these cowards, they killed him without warning and from behind. If they had any stones, they would have at least let him fight them even without a knife for his life. Strong words. I agree that Islam is pure evil and the belief system has to be eradicated. No one can convince me that their great prophet, Mohammad, was anything greater than the messenger of Satan.

I do believe that most Muslim followers are blind sheep, having no idea that they are following the prince of evil. The majority of these people live decent lives and pose no harm. May God awaken these people from their trance.

i'm so sick of this crap. there has never been a religion that's so demanding, so unforgiving to people of other faiths....and yet, all they do is complain and whine. centuries ago religious wars were common. we have become civilized and have moved toward acceptance of other beliefs but i will never, ever accept islam. it's difficult for me to admit i have such hatred, i'm not proud of my feelings but i can never allow a muslim to come into my life in any way. i despise everything islam represents.

See #466 above - I like to point out that the defeat of the Ottoman Turks at Vienna happened some eight years *after* the British colonies in North America began to turn away from the crown (Bacon's Rebellion, 1675). Had the Turks not been turned back in 1683, one wonders what events would've followed and whether America would even exist in any form that we would recognize.

These are not mere "What If" games; they serve to illustrate that these points in history DO matter to us and that we are not somehow detached from those past conflicts.

The rock-worshippers seem to grasp the fact that North America (the U.S. in particular) is where Western Christian civilization was spread to most recently. That's why we're number one on their "Great Satan" list.
