H.A.T. Chapter Forum Now Open!
Many of you have already received your invitation and temporary password so come on over and have a look. If you have not received an invitation and would like to join this forum send a FReep mail to anymouse
The 3rd meeting of the Houston Area Texans (H.A.T.)FreeRepublic Chapter occurred Saturday, February 16 at the Mucky Duck, located at 2425 Norfolk Street in Houston, TX.
Twelve FReepers attended the meeting. The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance for both the U.S. flag and the state of Texas flag. The pledges were moving enough that it has been decided to recite both pledges at all future chapter meetings.
One change in our line-up of officers, even though they are still officially "temporary". Flyer is the new e-mail administrator, replacing Humidston. We also have a new "Sergeant-at-Arms" and his FReepers name is Humblegunner.
The meeting featured several interesting reports on recent Freeper activity. Dix gave good reports regarding the final mayoral inauguration of L.P. Brown, observations on the Enron rally hosted by Rev. Je$$e Jack$on, and a by-chance encounter with $heila Jack$on-Lee at a local establishment. PetroniDE completed the FReep reports with observations regarding his experience as an election judge in recent municipal elections held in Houston.
In the near-term, there are several areas where FReepers can get involved. Those that were discussed at length are summarized below.
- Primary day in Texas is Tuesday, 12 March. The new voter registration certificate is "Longhorn Orange" (sorry Aggies, I call 'em as I see 'em). Know your candidates, know your issues, and vote. Bushdude2000 and PetroniDE plan on serving as election judges; contact Bushdude2000 regarding being an election judge if interested.
- Madeline Albright (remember her?) plans on making an appearance in Houston in the near future; GOPCapitalist will provide info as the date nears.
- Preliminary discussions regarding a fund raiser for the widow of Chief Negotiator.
Next H.A.T. FreeRepublic chapter meeting is scheduled for Saturday, 16 March 2002 at 3:00 PM. Location will again be The Mucky Duck, 2425 Norfolk St, Houston, TX.
Thanks to humblegunner for the meeting photos. . .
A replacement for the previous meeting thread.
BTW, why did the original thread (posted Saturday night) get deleted? I know some heated disagreements were written, but I've seen worse on other thread that remained while that thread was deleted. Any possibility that the deletion was just a FR system hiccup?
And just as soon as they ammend the Constitution to strike out "... and pursuit of happiness", we will stop meeting in a tavern. :)
Of course that will mark the beginning of the next revolution. LOL
(Note: Our forbearers dumped tea not ale to protest taxes - why waste good beer? :)
Flyer, gentleman that he is, thought we were being a bit rough on each other and asked the thread be deleted.
I think that covers it .............. next?
. . . on a HAT Chapter thread. I thought it reflected poorly on our chapter and considered what it would look like to someone considering joining.
My e-mail address is cob1@addr.com.
Thanks, friend
Everything was copasetic at the meeting (with beer), the problems started once we got back in cyberland on FR.
Apparently we have some malcontents that like taking potshots behind a computer screen rather than raising their concern face-to-face at the chapter meeting.
Even so, it was premature to yank the 1st thread just to give the illusion that all is right in the Houston chapter. If we have a problem it should be aired (preferably amongst ourselves in e-mail, FReep-mail or in our new HAT chapter FRN forum) rather than hidden away.
I don't think we have a real problem (other than a couple of hecklers) that a good discussion can't iron out. it is unfortunate that some us FR as a sandbox rather than a political debate hall.
we should hold ourselves to no less standards than we hold our government representatives. One would think that we are capable of besting their behavior on our worst days. ;)
Glad to help, sorry to be the bearer. Suggest the following: RUN, DUCK, COVER!
DWW
Yes, and in the front yard right out by the street.
We may want to be prepared for lots of activity that particular Saturday....
Can't wait to meet all the fine people here in the Houston area.
