Why are you afraid to spell out God? What gives?

I guess it is fear. We Jews, and I have noticed that many Gentiles also recognize the prohibition of using G-d's name in vain even in writing. We are careful to only hint at Him by deleting a letter in the word G-d. It is out of respect and reverence. We exalt Him by using the oblique method. I would usually write Hashem(the Name) when conversing with those knowledgeable of Hebrew, but to avoid confusion and repeated explanations I write G-d.

Why are you afraid to spell out God? What gives? I think it has to do with not wanting to destroy anything where the name is written. Whatever, I do it out of respect for the people who would rather not have the name written out.
