Democrats' message for voters flounders

Democratic leaders have been struggling without success to develop strategic campaign issues that can energize their party's political base and cut into Republican strength in the elections this year.

And that is causing Democratic campaign strategists to complain about their party leadership's lack of a clear, coherent message in the midst of critical midterm elections that could end up putting Republicans in full control of Congress.

You just hit my hot button....voting fraud. I'd love to see Bush propose stong voting reforms (like required picture ID), then stand back and watch the Dems oppose it. It would be like their recent opposition to health care for the unborn...it would appear senseless to the average viewer. Most people would buy into the fact that we show ID to fly, cash a check, etc. Why not to vote? This should become a constant Republican issue.

The democrats have the same national message they have always had:

"Vote for us--we'll take other people's money and give it to you."

The Mcain/Fiengold campaign bill is a slap against the 1st amendment, as well as the Shays /Meehan bill. Both bills should be put in the shredder. We don't need these people taking our rights away. Lets take them out of office.

This is not news. The Democratic Party is a party of special interests who, for years, has gotten away with not stating any particular platform or agenda.
Just imagine them having to stand and say the following:
We want to tax YOU and give your money to people who don't want to work.
We are using your S.S. money to pay for welfare and other programs. Our I.O.U. is in the jar.
We need to teach 7-year-olds about homosexuality so they don't become homophobics. History, math, English and science are secondary.
Your property is only yours if you pay your taxes ... unless a titmouse lives on such property, in which case, we'll tell you what you can and can't do with your property.
Alternative lifestyles are good. Marriage is bad.
Children should be taught tolerance early in schools by teaching the Islam religion. Christianity, however, is still banned.
And, we all know who lets them get away with this scam.

My issue too. Voter fraud steals part of our lives as Democrats force us to pay more and more taxes to fund their government parasite menargie. Chris Matthews is infuriating when he laughs about dead people voting in Chicago. That is how brazen they are. I would like to see serious penalites against anyone who engages in voter fraud. Throw them in jail and when they get out, take away their right to vote, right to donate to candidates, right to fundraise for parties and hold any government job or office for the rest of their lives.

The Dems are toast.

No way, the Republicans are "burnt" toast because of the Cheney/Enron/Ralph Reed triangle.

My sister in Phoenix is a sure bet for that klan. She reinforces her ignorance with a greater amount of conceit.

This is a common Dim trait and one I find among my relatives as well.

Enron is already a dead issue. The people just don't have that kind of an attention span plus they already factor in that all politicians are on the take anyway.

I love it when you disagree with me. With your track record, it pretty well insures that I'm right.

With Enron, the investigations will eventually lead back to Clinton's twisting of Indian and Nigerian and Croatian political arms so that Enron landed big projects and Democrats got big (for them) campaign donations.

President Bush's team has simply been playing this issue so that it will be Democrats who insist upon all of the investigations and punishments, only to have in the end Democrats burned by the eventual investigations. Just as feeding the Democrats fake stories about cocaine useage trapped and tricked many Democrats during election 2000, so too will this whole Enron "big energy" investigation end up turning against the Dems. It is brilliant, and because too many Dems are allowed to believe that GWB is stupid, they'll all fall for this trap, too.

The beauty of this slick Enron angle is that GWB won't have to lift a finger to get Clinton back under investigation. It will be Democrats caught up in their own (16) multiple investigations of Enron that will come back to point out that Clinton's assistant Treasury Secretary Linda Robertson illegally took an Enron job as a lobbyist (violating Clinton's Executive Order #12834) at that time. It will be Democrats investigating Enron who find out that Robert Rubin and Mack McClarty were engaged in illegal Enron activities, too (as was Clinton's Energy Secretary Bill Richardson).

Oooooooh, don't throw me in that Enron briar patch!

For me, I want MORE and more media atention on Enron. Let's have big book deals, movie deals, inside interviews, moles, whistle-blowers, everything.

The real danger about Enron is that it might not blow up against the Democrats in time to smash them in the 2002 elections. A little extra media coverage should insure against that eventuality, however.

Goodness, what's going to happen when Fox News starts running those video clips of Ken Lay golfing with Clinton, or better yet, of Ken Lay snow skiing with Clinton on his very first vacation to Vail in 1993?! Wasn't Ken Lay Ann Richard's biggest lifetime campaign contributor, too?!

Ouch! Who else hung out with Lay?? Think Milosovich will mention anything about Clinton's team banging heads to get the Croation power deal for Enron during his highly visible trial at the Hague?? What about the public taxpayer funds that Clinton got for Enron's power deal in India? Protecting Social Security, indeed... And don't even get me started on Terry McAulliffe and Global Crossing.

Doh! You got us! Karl Rove gave a favorable personal recommendation of Ralph Reed to Enron.

Clearly the Republicans are burned toast. Call off the 2002 elections and start a war baby, 'cause the party's over.

Not!

You crack me up, Tuco. Sometimes I'm almost convinced that you really do buy in to the Democratic Party's talking points (but usually I give you more credit than that and figure that you're just pulling a GWB and playing dumb to those gullible enough to fall for it).

Yep I got YOU!.

Reed's position at Enron was essentially a no-show position, which gave Reed a big income so he could lobby the Christian Coalition to maintain its strong support for Bush.

Reed was hired so that Enron's views would be taken seriously by Christian Conservatives. Those views included electricity deregulation and support of the Kyoto Protocol. Reed was successful in getting half of those views into the CC mainstream. The rest rejected Kyoto.

But that's a scandal, how??

That should double the votes for the Libertarians, from 0.4% to 0.8%.

You got nothin'.
Remember, Clinton was told not to dump stock of a certain company that has been in the news alot lately... And he's been nose deep in more than just that. So, how many Dems are gonna get burned? Only time will tell, and I'll love to see the look on Hillary's face when she gets shown to have a piece of that pie as well.

Regards -Darksheare, Late of NY.

One of the most damaging issues for the democrats in the last Election was their stand on the 2nd Ammendment. In two separate newspaper articles, weeks apart,First the Wyoming, and then the Montana democrat parties said they will be working to dispel the "Myth" that they are Anti-Gun. Part of their strategy to Re-Win the West. Should be interesting.

Watch out. It works. The Dem candidate for governor here last fall was endorsed by the Brady Bunch, yet when he put blaze orange roadsigns out with images of crossed shotguns on them, too many rural voters saw the signs and voted for him. Including my politically unsophisticated soon-to-be-brother-in-law. When he told me he voted for the Dem because of those signs, I said, "But he was endorsed by Handgun Control, Inc!" "Oh...," he said.
