Photo of the day.... Norway's Thomas Alsgaard, bottom, thrusts his ski forward to tie with Norway's Frode Estil for the silver medal in the men's cross-country pursuit. |
Are they freepers?? A couple of skating fans hold up signs protesting the outcome of Monday's pairs competion, during a break in the men's free skate program. |
Russian figure skater Evgeni Plushenko competes in the men's free skate program doing his girlie spin. |
Venezuelans Werner and Christopher Hoeger will make history whatever the outcome of the men's pairs luge on the seventh day of the Games.
Werner, 48, and Christopher, 17, will become the first father-and-son pair to compete in the discipline at the Winter Games. The pair, who took up the luge four years ago, hold Venezuelan nationality but live in Boise, Idaho.
WOW What a Men's final last night!!!!
Alexi Yagudin was absolutely fabulous! His performance was one of the most breathtaking I have ever seen. A well deserved and well earned GOLD MEDAL!!!
And we can't forget the gutsy performances of Yvgeny Plushenko, who shook off his short program disaster to skate a wonderful Long program to the SILVER.
And TOMOTHY GEOBELS technical expertise was awe inspiring -- while I feel he skated a much better technical program than Plushenko, I can't fault the judges scoring of PLushenko above him as Yvegny was light years better in presentation. BUT WATCH OUT, once Tim gets some artistic quality into his skating (IE MATURITY) he will be a force to contend with!!!
I do feel a little badly for Tekeshi Honda - he skated very good last night, but bless his heart he is just not on a plane technically or artistically (especially artistic) with the top three.
KUDO's to Todd Eldredge and Michael Weiss for gutsy comeback performances in the long. Watching Todd's unmatched style and grace one could not help but think he threw down a medal winning performance had it not been for his short program.
OF course - all my gushing aside - I am SURE that MIKAILOVICH will come in here, and even though Yagudin is Russian, Mikailovich will PAN HIS PERFORMANCE and say he DOES NOT DESERVE the Gold because he skated a WESTERN style program to GASP UGH EEK AMERICAN MOVIE MUSIC (the Man in the Iron Mask) ;-) LOL!

It really was an exciting competition last night--with all 3 medals well-deserved !
(...alltho' I do still wonder how Plushenko ended up in 4th after the short program--but ahhh well--he was very impressive last night)</FONT SIZE>
My teen-aged daughter is now in love with Timothy Goebels (and hoping he does not play for the "other" team) -- she thinks he looks a bit like "Elijah Woods" (the hobbit guy)
I watched most of Timothy's program through my fingers -- I was so nervous for him
oh yeah...and I watched the curling competition too--it's really kinda neat--lots of strategy !
Others in the same boat: Elvis Stoyko, Michael Weiss, any male French or Chinese skater (take your pick).

ps: I don't think any of the male skaters are on the home team.
