Joe, fight your personal battle right now. When you win that one and are all healed up, recharged and ready for action, come back to the front lines.
Joe, as a long time solo protester, you know better than most, that the front line will always be there!
I'm saving a spot for you. You're the kind of guy I like to have protecting my back!

I'm hurt. You don't remember that is me in that picture? I made both of those signs and gave you one to carry! That was quite the fun day we had - remember us practically leading the parade? It stretched for a couple blocks! Remember the obnoxious Sore Loserman who wanted to pick a fight as we were marching down the hill into Pike Place Market?

I remember you quite well. I was going to ping you, but I figured you'd fine this spot without trouble. Someone was kind enough to post a link to this thread on the Washington State home page, so I knew a lot of the old gang would show up.

I spent 15 years in Glendale and 4 years in Simi Valley, and I wish Free Republic had been in existence in those days. I know just how spread out the City of Southern California really is, so I know just how big a row to hoe any Chapter Executive has.
I've flagged some of the people involved with the Free Republic Network, so I'm sure the essay will be widely circulated. I've put a lot of good info into it, and you might want to re-start the chapter using some of those ideas.

So, Publius, I'm a little lost here. Where does that leave the chapter, and how does one find out what, if anything, is being done, planned, hoped for, etc.? I can't read all the posts on these threads, to little real info in most, but a lot of spirit and gusto. It just takes to long to plough through it all.

"Libertina" is in charge, "big ern" is handling communications, and "Billthedrill" is setting up a FReeper Meet for March. I don't know if you've enrolled in the chapter, but contact "big ern" by FReepmail if you haven't.

IMO the most detrimental aspect to our chapter is not being successful in getting a place to gather. No one is volunteering a home to meet in. (Houses too small, too far away, don't want to etc.)
Restaurants, unless just meeting at fast food locations, charge to reserve rooms - proving expensive (to Publius and Billthedrill.)And who knows if people will show up. Fast food places aren't good for people with kids. Unless members are willing to come up with a location, the lack of getting together and renewing friendships results in the chapter falling apart.
I think it is fine for the chapter to have different interests. Some don't like to FReep, some do. But when together it seems everyone enjoys the excellent company. But unless contact is made every once in a while - the group feeling fades and has no chance to grow. This has been the most frustrating for me, - that I don't have a place to offer. Because if I did, I'd offer it in a heartbeat. I hope we're able to get something together soon.

Good work! Can we add this to the Network Chapter Manual?

Please do. And add "Libertina's" lament in the previous post to it also. She has written what should have been in the last paragraphs.

What are you two guys doing over here? I just ignored BilltheDrill, and lo and behold I'm reading an old thread about him.
Those were the days of the GIANTS!
I wonder if Bill is still making his beer . . .

His is still making his beer, thank God! His Christmas ale with a hint of orange peel was the hit of our last FReeper Meet in Tacoma.

Miss Slip, you list four of us then say "you
two"? I am confused.
I was there because after we met at the "Million American March" in Seattle, Libertina sent me a link to this.
