I'm rich
2-14-02 | farmall

My wife and I are both public school teachers. We both teach additional day and after school classes. We both teach summer school and I have another job as a security guard. Combined total we earned @ $119,000 in 2001. IRS has already taken @ $19,000. It looks like they want another $ 3-5,000 on 4-15-02.

Yup, and with that attitude, you'll stay there forever. And rightly so. Get your butts out and get some training, work more than one job, and quit being an envious little gollum. Live like kings ... what a moron.

If the IRS took in zero dollars one year:

Dumbocrats and Rinos in Congress would first print more money, borrow more money, wring their hands about "massive debt" (as they increase entitlement programs and create more and more pork projects)--and then proclaim that the only solution is raising taxes.

Don't think that would happen? How do you think the top marginal tax rate got raised from 26% to 39% while The Rapist was President?

Question ... was it all right when you thought Gates was their target? If so, why? Did it never occur to you that if it were him, it could be anybody? And is?

Start by reading the law. The income tax is completely constitutional. Most of us are just too compliant and simply go along by paying it even though it doesn't apply to us.

Ahh ... it still doesn't explain why you would resent hard-working people with several jobs, and think that robbing them was okay and not worth your "tears." I do sympathize with you, though. Canada is a marvellous, beautiful place, but I couldn't live under that government. Well ... maybe in Nova Scotia. Hmm ... or in the wilderness anywhere up there. Or ... sigh. Nope, not under that government. ;o)

Yeah, who but the IRS could get away with stealing more money

You're doing exactly what the lawmakers who are cheered on here everyday want you to do...blame the nameless faceless bureaucrats THEY put in charge of the tax laws THEY make to confiscate your money.

IRS is performing as a well oiled machine, just as Congress and the President(s) designed it to do...

Nothing will be done untill everyone realizes or will admit who really is to blame for our tax woes.

The top five percent of workers (including me) pay 95% of all income taxes.

The sad thing is that you can very easily see how this situation has developed. I mean, even here on a supposedly "conservative" forum, there are people saying "Right on! Sock it to him!"

Doesn't Canada have "free" health care that your income tax is paying for ?

the Canadian equivalent of US$125,000 is CAN$200,000. That is a very high income in Ontario

What the poster did not indicate is where they are living. One of the problems with teachers, firefighters, police etc is that they often live in areas that are "high rent" and the income they earn goes largely to housing costs. In CT, that happens often for people who live in Fairfield county.

I think however the point is proven about the relationship of higher taxes and income. In Canada, the country with the higher tax rates has lower income. Again it proves my point about the marginal rates. Why bother to earn more ?

American should take a look at all the taxes they pay: Income fed, state, local, sales taxes on most of what they spend, property taxes, fuel taxes, sin taxes, and finally for some taxes when they die. Oh well remember most of it is spent on programs that don't work.

We did that. Then we elected a Republican House and Senate, then we elected a Republican President (who has already created a new tax sucking[homeland security] program that doesn't work and now wants to impose exorbitant energy taxes on us too)....

NOW WHAT?!!

Agreed. It's amazing how even here at FR there are many who are sucked into the Dumbocrat zero-sum mentality of class warfare: Any wealth I gain through education, hard work, and investing wisely somehow steals food out of the mouths of poor people.

I don't begrudge anyone who's successful and rich as long as they're engaged in a legal enterprise and aren't committing tax fraud.

Rush was right when he said: "Americans love to say 'Screw the rich and raise their taxes--'rich' being defined as 'anyone who makes $3,000 a year more than I do'."

People would be much more aware of their taxes if they were listed on every reciept they get.

LOL!...You mean the receipt stuffed in the bag that's thrown in the garbage when you get it home?....except women, they only keep receipts to return items.

BTW, did you know that "any" government (local, state, federal) employee's are a service and their wages would be subject to your "sales tax"?.....How would you see that HUGE tax on a receipt?

Well, that explains, alot. You Canadians have it worse than we do, but that only means that you should be even louder than we are. I have several Canadian friends who say the same thing about being severely taxed, but they think we all should just toss out the governments of North America and start over as one big country. Considering that I like the Canadians that I know, that wouldn't be a bad idea to me.

The income tax applies to all of those people in the U.S. who derive their income from the foreign sources listed in IRC 26. It's important to read the law.

It's important to read the law.

You must be speed reading. You missed section 1.
