Pointing to students' debt loads, presidents of predominantly black colleges asked Congress for more money for financial aid.

Addressing a joint hearing of two House education committees Wednesday, several college officials said their students need more government help as costs rise higher than they can afford.

Shirley Lewis, president of Paine College in Augusta, Ga., said nearly every Paine student either is working or has taken out loans. Many students end up graduating about $20,000 in debt, she said.

In this land of racial equality, what does it mean for a college to be a "black college"?

Pardon me. Could you tell me where there is a White College in the U.S.?

Easy enough for 'ya leadpenny?

Easy enough if you're peddling jive. Name one institution of higher learning that bills itself as a "Traditional White College?" And please tell me when we, as a nation, no longer need to refer to something as black-this or afro-that? When jj or al or queesi say so? Or maybe when you say so?

"Black colleges...may tend to be more reflective of black culture."

By this do mean teaching and stressing Afro-centric perspectives, including revisionist history, philosophy and advocacy of separatism?

Afrocentrism actually started and is stronger at non-black colleges and universities, so the direct answer to your question is "not necessarily."

What I was more referring to is that there are more blacks around and the day-to-day life of the school is more like what most blacks are used to. This can be as simple as serving certain foods in the cafeteria to which holidays are celebrated to who gets to come speak at the school.

My thoughts are that calling something "black" does not mean it automatically excludes others. It's a way of identifying who it is aimed at.

Some may wonder why this needs to be done in this day and time but there's been a long history of excluding, stigmztizing, marginalizing, or ridiculing anything "Black." Some blacks have chosen to respond by asserting that "Black" is something to include and something to be proud of.

Just about anyone wants their race and their culture to be represented positively in the things that touch their lives. With whites in America, such a thing happens without saying; with blacks, it has not come as easily; hence the need to have "Black" this or "Black" that. Of course, not every black feels this way but enough do.

I would encourage you to not feel slighted by something being called "Black"- Blacks are generally not being racist by saying/doing that.

Well this ain't no jive.

Name one institution of higher learning that bills itself as a "Traditional White College?"

They don't need to- if a Black institution chooses to do that don't have a cow- it isn't aimed at you anyway.

And please tell me when we, as a nation, no longer need to refer to something as black-this or afro-that? When jj or al or queesi say so? Or maybe when you say so?

Yeah, when I say so. That'll work.

Thanks for not answering the questions.

They don't need to-

Are you saying that any college that is not a traditional-historical-predominately black college is a white college?

Yeah, when I say so

As I asked before, when will that be?

"Shirley Lewis, president of Paine College in Augusta, Ga., said nearly every Paine student either is working or has taken out loans."

Sounds just like the university where I teach.

"Many students end up graduating about $20,000 in debt, she said."

"Many" is a weasel word. What does "many" mean in this case (as in HOW many)? She doesn't say.

"...to give laptop computers to low-income freshmen who receive the grant."

I've never been able to afford a laptop, and I'd love to have one.

What a load of garbage! If this is the case, why do "blacks" constantly whine about being called African-Americans when 99.9% of them have never been to Africa and never will go?

Why is it when blacks want handouts because they are black, they refer to themselves as "blacks"?

Then they turn around and want to be called African-Americans when they are spewing their own racist garbage.

When blacks decide what they want to be called and learn that slavery was over many moons ago, the US will be a much better place. Go cry a river elsewhere. Trust me, the white middle class male is sick and tired of hearing blacks, womyn, and one legged HIV infested faggots keep whining about the fact that they are minorities!

Thanks for not answering the questions.

I think I did answer the question if you were really reading. Were you?

They don't need to-Are you saying that any college that is not a traditional-historical-predominately black college is a white college?

It's whatever they say it is and whatever the demographics say it is.

Yeah, when I say so-As I asked before, when will that be?

I guess when the population changes or whenever anyone decides to drop the "Black" designation.

How do you know who has been to Africa or wants to go? Anyway, that isn't really part of the present discussion.

Why is it when blacks want handouts because they are black, they refer to themselves as "blacks"?

I don't think anyone is looking for a handout based on race but on economic need. Why is it that some of you are so quick to assume that blacks want handouts period, let alone because they are black?

When blacks decide what they want to be called and learn that slavery was over many moons ago, the US will be a much better place. Go cry a river elsewhere. Trust me, the white middle class male is sick and tired of hearing blacks, womyn, and one legged HIV infested faggots keep whining about the fact that they are minorities!

We call ourselves whatever we want to call ourselves and we all know when slavery ended. If you don't want to hear people whine about being "minorities" don't listen to them but don't discriminate against them either.

"Black people are getting poorer, not richer in the country

Right. Its odd that the poorer they get, the more expensive cars they start to drive and more expensive clothes they start to wear. I though those things costed money. Silly me.

In our highschool some of the kids on welfare have better clothes than the average middle-class student. And they are the latest fashion, so they are not donated clothes.

I am always amused at the gold jewelry displayed by welfare mothers lamenting about their poverty situations.

Tony Brown of "Tony Brown's Journal" had a show where he admonished poor people to stop buying their children expensive sneakers and clothes and instead buy them a computer.
