That's a bit of a non-sequitur. In truth, I don't see anything obviously sexually deviant in being a swinger; "swinger" is really just another word for "promiscuous" when you get right down to it. They weren't homosexual, and there were no farm animals or underage people involved. The difference between them and the average promiscuous American is that they are honest about it.
I don't really find the lifestyle to be savory, but I don't think that it is much of a sexual deviation as they were doing it either. I've known some otherwise upstanding individuals who did swing on rare occasion, some of whom are far more conservative than I am; most do not make it an overt lifestyle and you generally would never know unless you were told. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I don't really consider it an issue unless a person makes it a problem. As I said, I've never done it and kind of look upon the practice with some distaste, but I don't see it as an innate social problem either.
Granted, these don't seem to have been the most responsible parents, but that has very little to do with the fact that they were swingers. There are vast quantities of equally irresponsible parents who don't have "sexually deviant" proclivities who it could have happened to.
I don't doubt that point, as swinging is mostly about hedonism whereas pedophilia is a deep pathology involving power and control issues.
But the real question is this: couldn't a crafty pedophile use swinging as a means to access children?
Its an absolutely disgusting and immoral lifestyle. Would you want to raise your kids among people that practiced this lifestyle? Its no different than homosexuals who have higher incidents of sexually transmitted diseases saying they're just like middle america. its a lie. A HUGE LIE.

If these stories are true, then the Van Dams turned their home into a sewer, and their little girl paid dearly for their jollies. I would not want to have that guilt banging around in my head...a person could go mad.
Because, Hildy, actions have consequences. And just how do you know that their actions have nothing to do with her disappearance?
Only a twit would insinuate that drugs were the reason the kid was abducted. They could have been drinking a few brewskis and the result would have been no different. Hell, they could have been stone cold sober and there is nothing to suggest that the outcome would not have been the same.

I could care less what you do privately, but making blanket statements that swingers would never be involved with anyone associated with pedophilia is ridiculous. I don't recall hearing that the parents were running background checks on their bar pick-ups.

Our society is decadent. That means the people are decadent. Look at the Mardi Gras thread posts about how many people think such behavior is perfectly fine.
So are you here to defend the drug use or the child porn? There's a lot to keep you libertarian sickos busy.
