BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) Argentine authorities detained a passenger aboard a United Airlines jetliner Thursday after he tried to enter the cockpit during a flight from Miami, officials and the airline said. The unidentified passenger was restrained by the plane's crew and later arrested by police after the flight landed as scheduled in Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital, said Jorge Reta, an Air Force spokesman. Authorities did not identify the passenger, but local reports said the man was reportedly a Uruguayan citizen. United Airlines said it had notified local authorities and the FBI about the incident. In a statement, United said flights to and from Argentina would continue as scheduled. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright 2002 The Associated Press. "PLEASE DON"T GIVE THEM ANY MORE IDEAS"
I'm forecasting what the European press will report.

CNN is supposed to have a interview with a passenger that was seated in first-class. He should be able to bring some clarity to whether the door opened or not.
If that door opened for any reason during this incident...then security FAILED!

Do you know if this axe is ONLY available in the cockpit, or are there others onboard in the cabin?

Uruguay must be upset that they were not included in the "Axis of Evil" list. Sorry Uruguay, you just didn't make the cut...

A flight attendent hit the passenger with a fire ax? That will teach him not to bring his seat to the full upright position.....
To: RCW2001
Only in the cockpit. But there's enough other items onboard that are hazardous. Extinguisher bottles will take the oxygen out of you if shot at you (experience) LOL

The fruitcake was Uruguayan all right but I bet he's from Saudi ancestryI hope he ends up being from Iran, Iraq or North Korea. If he is from Saudi Arabia it will just be shrugged off. If he is from the axis of evil....LOOK OUT!

If that door opened for any reason during this incident...then security FAILED!You bet. Israeli experts have been saying for months that the new security is an illusion to a large degree.
I think pilots should carry guns, if armed agents cannot be on every flight.
