HEY, GANG. COME AND JOIN IN ON THE TEACHER CHATBOARD. THE LINK IS ABOVE. THEY NEED TO KNOW THEIR RIGHTS AND SHOULD BE DEMANDING MONEY BACK FOR THOSE DUES BEING USED FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES (FOR THE RATS) WITHOUT PERMISSION.
Post: dues being used for political purposes
Posted by Doug on 2/04/02
A friend of mine was tired of her dues being used for political purposes with which she disagreed. She demanded an accounting and a refund. She just got back almost $300. Most people are afraid to make waves.
In Washington, teachers are demanding an accounting of the money. It's okay to use the money with permission, but it would be nice if the Beck decision was followed. Not everyone agrees with the political positions of the NEA or CTA and it is outrageous that they spend money without permission.

The thread is starting to look good on the board.

Um.....shouldn't 7th and 8th graders be a bit beyond such simple vocabulary exercises? Sounds like fourth grade material to me.

There oughta be a Law! A law that says gov't employees cannot unionize. It's pure tyrrany. If you don't follow the Dem party line, you can't tech the children of America. That has got to change!

For more really interesting information on union dues go to Pacific Justice Institute at
http://www.pacificjustice.org/union.html.
They have legal advice and sample letters for keeping your dues out of the hands of the union and transferring the dues to charity.

Ping! What say you?

The chatboard thread is growing. This needs to be done in other states.

I recall a talk show where Mark Levin was the guest about seven months ago, where he was describing a Landmark Legal action against the NEA for this very reason. I'll see if I can find it. John

Thanks. I had put a Landmark Legal link on the teacher chatboard. Mark is all over this issue and I think he is not only going to eat their lunch, they will have to stay after school and miss a week of recess.

doug the issue about not going with the union is if a kid sues I am not so sure you get a union lawyer.
The political stuff is cr@p, I agree. But I would fear lawsuits if I were a teacher and went to the union for a lawyer after wanting some of the dues back.
It is an issue for a teacher I would think.
PS: I hate the teacher's union.

I posed a question to doug about that on the board. If only dues used for political activity is refunded, how can they deny someone legal help? Seems that would be covered by the rest of the dues.

What are you naughty boys up to now? I'll go look ...
To: 2Trievers
It's not naughty at all. It is informing teachers of their rights not to have their dues money taken for political purposes without permission.
To: Summer
PING. Thought you might be interested in this since you are a teacher.

Doug,
This past fall, yours truly attended the annual teacher's union meeting, armed with all of Mark Levine's materials from Landmark Legal. I began by questioning the leadership about their accounting for political donations and their bookkeeping. Needless to say, in a room with 1,000 bleeding heart liberals, I was booed down. But when I asked for my dues back, it was granted. Cut me some slack, will ya'?
To: 2Trievers
Way to go! That takes courage!
To: LarryLied
You might surprise yourself when you use your anger and frustration to a positive end ... like enraging liberals!
To: 2Trievers
I bet they were apoplectic. It is a cloistered community. Opposing views are alien.
