While the former veep praised President Bush for is stewardship of the war on terrorism, he warned that the country needed new leadership that would make finding energy "substitutes and alternatives and conservation" a priority.
Have any of you fellow FReepers even imagined how 9/11 and this war would have been handled if GORE & LIEBERMAN had won the election?

One more thing, does anyone else feel the way I do that, during the election fiasco in Florida,it was not just for the presidency, but survival for mankind and the western way of life? The fight was as if their lives, and ours, depended on it,and I think it did.

Your post # 14 is exactly right. I was even thinking Gore would be cowaring in a closet making a phone call asking how to react like a man. What a total jerk he is !!!!I love to see the word "Gore" and "jerk" in the same post. I guess it goes hand-n-hand.

Liberals/Democrats can not be trusted to run our military.
Liberals/Democrsts can not be trusted to run our schools.
Liberals/Democrats can not implement any program, good or bad, without creating or expanding the government bureaucracy.

I think President Bush was activly planning a raid on OBL long before 911,I think OBL got wind of it and made a pre-emptive strike against the US.How long before 9/11? How long do you think it would take to execute such an attack? I should think a lot more than 9 months!
What about all of the other attacks - beginning with the WTC bombing in '93 thru the bombing of the USS Cole in '00? Are you saying that President Bush was conspiring against him then? Or does Osama have some magical power that lets him see into the future?

This was a response that someone wrote to a WSJ/Opinion Journal article, last week. I am not the author, so I hope its ok that I am reposting this, but here goes.
Gore's War
Matt J Kurlander - Simpsonville, S.C.
Would Al Gore have run the war the same way? I doubt it. If the Clinton-Gore record is anything to go on, September 11th would have been followed by cruise missile attacks carefully targeted to avoid sensitive eco-systems and preserve Afghan biodiversity. Following a careful screening for gender balance, U.S. troops would be dispatched to New York to protect Muslims from racial profiling. Al-Qaeda and the Taliban would become our "Partners for Peace" in an accord negotiated by the World Court, Greenpeace, NOW, Jesse Jackson, and various non-governmental organizations. Al Gore and Osama bin Laden would share the Nobel Peace prize.

We would still be negotiating with the Taliban government in Kabul... When I read the headline of this post, my reaction was, I don't know and I don't know how anyone could ever know. Then I came across your quite correct reply. You have it exactly right.

I'll tell you this: Theres NO WAY "Failed Presidential Candidate" Gore would've thought,to make the decision to bring down every plane over the skies of the U.S.,and he never would've had the balls to make the decision that it is O.K. to shoot down our own airplanes!Everyone, please remember, that their were Knives/Cutters found in Trashcans on Planes and in Airports THROUGHOUT the nation---Another example of our Smelly Media.Who knows by bringing down ALL the planes (in what 3 hours or so? That's unheard of!)what other disasters were averted!

Gore would have had Bill and Hillary as advisors for military strategy.

Should have read my other post.I said the previous attacks were warnings to clinton to lay off islam or more terrible attacks would follow, that clinton was essentialy blackmailed into doing nothing against terrorism.
To: eastforker
The previous attacks did not elicit the kind of response from us that a REAL leader would have given obl. We should have stopped him in his tracks back in '93. When clinton dropped those bombs on that apirin factory my first thought was that all hell's gonna break loose and I was worried about how obl would retaliate. We found out on 9/11.
To: GrandMoM
Gore would have been instructing his underlings to keep up on the polls to see what everybody else thinks he should do; he would have been talking about the lock box and listening to everything Daschole told him; Gore would have been worried about hurting people's feelings so he wouldn't have been leading anything; the military would be instructed to go in circles so nothing would get accomplished; and, of course, Gore and his family, in the meantime, would be playing football in their yard and going to movies like "Men of Honor" with Lieberman. Lieberman would have been using his best whiny voice 24-7 on t.v. Clinton (both) would have been saying what a great job Gore was doing, and praising the military for bombing another aspirin factory. In the meantime, numerous other attacks would have occurred on our soil----and God knows what else Gore would have caused to happen.

That is exactly my point,we had people on the ground in afghanistan ready to go after the taliban and yes the planes into building plan had been around a long time.IMHO obl stepped up the timetable for attacks knowing we were coming after him anyway.
To: w1andsodidwe
The way I understand it, the Generals give several options, depending upon what the President asks for. I believe that a President Gore (shudder) would have asked for much different options than our President Bush. It would have been a couple of quick bombings and then nothing. Lots of rhetoric, but no real muscle. That's right! algore would have done the same thing Klintoon did after the first bombing of the WTC, the attack on the U.S.S. Cole and the embassy bombings in Africa which was NOTHING!
I Thank God every day that we have a great leader like President Bush.
To: eastforker
All I'm saying is that obl planned 9/11 long before W ever took office. He rightly thought that we were weak - each attack from '93 through '00, and our pathetic response, did nothing but embolden him. He underestimated W and woke up a sleeping giant.
