Last night while talking to my bride, she brought up the point that all are so concerned about Mr. Pearl and rightly so, but what about the two missionaries held captive in the Philippines for the last 8-9 months, the gov seems to be out to lunch when it comes to these two who are every much as American as Mr. Pearl but without the connections of the WSJ.
I understand that it takes time to address these issues, but the disparity is appalling.

It was more like she was "aloof" and uninvolved. She seemed to be proud of the fact that her husband wanted to create a dialogue with them. She struck me as being one of the "let's try to understand them" crowd and didn't really believe they were evil enough to do it.

Olson Book's Chilling Warning: Clinton's Terrorist Pardons Sent Signal Thanks for the very timely reminder of the info in Barbara's book on terrorism and the Clinton administration.

Just speculating, but if I wanted to gain a little bit more information and perhaps trick the kidnappers into making a mistake, I'd put out a report from another radical "group" that said the old boy was dead - in order to convince the real kidnappers to show proof that they have him alive.
But that's just little old me...

The kidnappers demanded that we treat the prisoners/detainees better or they would kill this man.
POLL:
WHO THE HELL TOLD THE KIDNAPPERS THAT THESE PRISONERS WHERE NOT BEING TREATED PROPERLY?
a)The Europeans?
b)Liberal numb-brains in this country?
or
c)All of the above?
Who should shoulder some of the blame for this mans death?

My thought was his wife was in shock and didn't believe he would be hurt. One time my husband was seriously injured and as I sat in the waiting room while he was in surgery I was sort of joking and laughing and saying nothing was wrong with him,,later I realized I was in some strange state of disbelief and terror. I was 9 months pregnant at the time with an 18 month old at home. He got okay but I know how shock and fear can make you look almost silly or detached or uncaring. This lady has to be in hell.

I figured they were going to kill him. I was just hoping our forces would find them before they had a chance. This just makes me sick.

a caller is demanding a $2 million ranson.....and to turn over Zaif(sp) Taliban Ambassador to Pakistan... If Pearl is murdered, we should shoot the Talibum ambassador and drop his body off at the nearest Al Jereeza outlet in Pakistan.

If this is true, there can be only one response:
select an inmate of Camp 'X-ray' at random, take him out to a slit trench, shoot him and roll him in, like you would a rabid dog.
That's the ONLY behavior those Arab scum will understand.

In the last few days another islamic terrorist group tried to abduct an American businessman ( working for Dole) in the Phillipines. But they foiled the abduction.
Look for this stuff to become commonplace, as it was in southern Russia for them when I was there in 1997.

Find the terrorist camp in this photo. Find Mecca in the photo.

I agree with your assessment. She also said she hadn't slept for 6 days. I get downright giddy after 24 hours of no sleep. She was probably trying to show a brave front and over-compensated because her mind is probably numb!
How I grieve for this family. I think he is probably dead, the 2nd notice asked for money. Money was never in any of the original demands. This 2nd communication is nothing more than a scam for money.

I didn't see the interview, but you have a good point about the wife. Perhaps she is in denial.
To: Southack
I hope you are right,,it makes sense to flush them out that way. I can't believe they would kill him, after that they have no power to do anything unless all they want to do is terrorize journalists and put the heat on Mousharref or cause trouble in Pakistan. I still don't get this kidnapping.

"The irony is he apparently died for a government he didn't like, if the reports about him are true."Ironic indeed, if true, but it's far more likely he died in the advancement of his career. There is no indication whatsoever that his travels in the Mideast were motivated by patriotism or a love of this country.
