I guess you have never done anything stupid in your life... how perfect of you.

That wasn't called for now was it?

But you are still not getting it.

No, it is you who are still not getting it.

What is our soldiers mission but to protect american lives.

Our soldiers mission is military; not babysitting. It is not the job of our soldiers to save some future Darwin Recipient from his own fatal repeated mistakes and arrogance.

If we allow the terrorists to kill Pearl without retribution it puts additional american lives at risk, because the same people who killed Pearl will kill other Americans.

Oh there will be retribution if they kill him (which is different from what your argument of risking soldiers lives rescuing a reporter who refused to listen to at least 3 warnings to not place himself in harms way).

This is what they live for, don't you get it?

Soldiers do not live for saving stupid people from themselves, sorry

If we don't kill them they will never leave us alone.

This I completely agree with and our soldiers are taking care of that mission right now - as best they can with liberals trying to hamper the efforts.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one,, I suspect a generation gap here. I am 24 and perfectly willing to fight for the freedom to live free of fear.

I suspect much more than simply a generation gap here, however; when I was 24, I had just finished serving as a U.S. Marine. I am also married to a career Special Forces hubby. And if you are so upset about that reporter - you also have the ability to leave your computer, put yourself in harms way to rescue him - after all, it has been you who have been calling for us to "take care of our own". I'd rather put you in harms way, since you feel you have an obligation to someone who didn't listen to repeated warnings,, than my spouse or any other military member. Their job is already dangerous enough.

You I expect are willing to trade a certain amount of freedom for safety.

LOL, ya think?

Just remember your children and grandchildren will have to live with the decisions we make now. Don't trade their future for illusory safty.

Interesting how those who have no concept of military sacrifice and mission are so willing to let others do the bleeding and dying so they can feel good about themselves. The lives of military personnel are not expendible on people who refuse to listen to repeated warnings about safety.

Here I was referring to the kidnapers that have Pearl.

If you believe that Pearls kidnapers must be dealt with the I guess the only difference of opinion between us is that I would prefer that we go after them now, while you would prefer to wait till after they kill Pearl, because it would be morally wrong to save a man stupid enough to put his own life in danger.

No, I believe it is morally wrong to send in our troops to endanger their lives for him as he caused his own situation by failing to listen to repeated warnings. In this world we have to take personal responsibility for our actions and the man was warned repeatedly and even offered bodyguards, which he also chose to not have. I am still shaking my head at his own horrible judgment -- after all if he weren't thinking of himself, he does have a wife and new baby on the way who will need a husband and dad.

I am quite confident some serious behind-the-scenes diplomatic action is going on and I pray for his swift and safe release. I would guess that SF troops are looking for him as well, so you probably can rest assured on that. I hope he comes out a healthy and wiser man for this. But I also remember the reporter from Britian who was beaten to a pulp only to lavish compliments on his abusers and damn the USA as a result. I do not have much respect for the profession of journalism and it is because of their own liberal bias and arrogance. Although I do not wish them harm, I certainly do not believe if they act foolishly that even one private in the US Army should get a stubbed toe over trying to save them.

It would be morally wrong to risk GussiedUp's husband and the father of her child to save a man who did not consider his wife and unborn child, who did not consider the warnings he was given by our military, but instead did what he wanted to do, period. IF he pays with HIS LIFE, that was HIS CHOICE.

Thanks for the ping. It looks like you are doing a good job of fighting the fight. But I have a question...Why are you arguing with a 24 year old civilian? If he/she believes what they are saying, let them go enlist. You did, your husband did, my husband did. If this poster feels as strongly about defending the country as we all did when we were 24, let him/her put up or shut up. My guess is, he/she is not interested in military service. Otherwise he/she would not be defending this journalist. He intentionally put himself in harm's way. If I were making the decision, I'd let him get himself out. However, I know there are people right now being themselves in danger to save his stupid assets.

"If we don't kill them they will never leave us alone."

They didn't go after the journalist, he went to them.....that is a significant point.

Why are some people so brave with others lives?
How many lives is this story(Pearl's story) worth?
Is your hubby in Afghanistan, mine has been on and off alert so many times, I've lost count.
btw....Monday you are only 24, you still are eligible to enlist...

How right you are! I find it troubling that those who are so quick to humanize these reporters are also just as quick to dehumanize the soldier/sailor/airman/marine. They also have lives, loves, families (that would be us!) that they wish to come home to and their lives certainly are not expendible because someone else acted foolishly (and probably thinking the U.S. Army's job is to rescue them from their own lack of horse-sense and self-preservation)

My spouse is retired now and I will be sending up prayers for your beloved husband's safety!! Semper Fi to you! :)

You are so kind, but please save your prayers for our GI's in harm's way.
My hubby plans to retire in 2 years, he'll have 30 in by then...he's getting too old and cantankerous(but aren't all 1sgts that way)...LOL

btw...he was going to retire this year if algore got elected, but luck would have it... he wanted to stay and help clean up the mess.
