y any measure, the Carville-Shrum scheme to attack Bush by clintonoid compartmentalization ("praise the Bush war effort / pan the Bush character and economy") isn't working. Ask any pollster or pundit. It's the terrorism...and character...stupid Compartmentalization scheme a fraud Does anyone still sentient after eight years of the clintons really believe that the clintons and their "infrastructure" really want Bush to succeed where the co-rapists failed so utterly? To sabotage Bush is merely to extend into realtime the method of legacy-building historically preferred by the clintons; that is, trash other presidents in an effort to hoist their own sorry collective heft from history's dustbin. The clintons are constitutionally incapable of understanding that the bottom line is not power or money or Nobel Peace Prizes, and certainly not misbegotten power or money or Nobel Peace Prizes. They and their minions continue to undermine the Bush war effort even as they assume poses and mouth poll-tested phrases to the contrary. But Bush sees right through this. In his State of the Union speech, Bush told us: This was a direct blow to the collective clinton scheme...and paunch...and legacy.
As we gather tonight, our nation is at war, our economy is in recession, and the civilized world faces unprecedented dangers. Yet the state of our Union has never been stronger. (Applause.) We last met in an hour of shock and suffering. In four short months, our nation has comforted the victims, begun to rebuild New York and the Pentagon, rallied a great coalition, captured, arrested, and rid the world of thousands of terrorists, destroyed Afghanistan's terrorist training camps, saved a people from starvation, and freed a country from brutal oppression. (Applause.)... Our cause is just, and it continues. Our discoveries in Afghanistan confirmed our worst fears, and showed us the true scope of the task ahead. We have seen the depth of our enemies' hatred in videos, where they laugh about the loss of innocent life. And the depth of their hatred is equaled by the madness of the destruction they design. We have found diagrams of American nuclear power plants and public water facilities, detailed instructions for making chemical weapons, surveillance maps of American cities, and thorough descriptions of landmarks in America and throughout the world. What we have found in Afghanistan confirms that, far from ending there, our war against terror is only beginning. Most of the 19 men who hijacked planes on September the 11th were trained in Afghanistan's camps, and so were tens of thousands of others. Thousands of dangerous killers, schooled in the methods of murder, often supported by outlaw regimes, are now spread throughout the world like ticking time bombs, set to go off without warning... Our nation will continue to be steadfast and patient and persistent in the pursuit of two great objectives. First, we will shut down terrorist camps, disrupt terrorist plans, and bring terrorists to justice. And, second, we must prevent the terrorists and regimes who seek chemical, biological or nuclear weapons from threatening the United States and the world. (Applause.)... States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred. They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States. In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic. We will work closely with our coalition to deny terrorists and their state sponsors the materials, technology, and expertise to make and deliver weapons of mass destruction. We will develop and deploy effective missile defenses to protect America and our allies from sudden attack. (Applause.) And all nations should know: America will do what is necessary to ensure our nation's security. We'll be deliberate, yet time is not on our side. I will not wait on events, while dangers gather. I will not stand by, as peril draws closer and closer. The United States of America will not permit the world's most dangerous regimes to threaten us with the world's most destructive weapons. (Applause.) Our war on terror is well begun, but it is only begun. This campaign may not be finished on our watch -- yet it must be and it will be waged on our watch. We can't stop short. If we stop now -- leaving terror camps intact and terror states unchecked -- our sense of security would be false and temporary. History has called America and our allies to action, and it is both our responsibility and our privilege to fight freedom's fight. (Applause.) Our first priority must always be the security of our nation... During these last few months, I've been humbled and privileged to see the true character of this country in a time of testing. Our enemies believed America was weak and materialistic, that we would splinter in fear and selfishness. They were as wrong as they are evil. (Applause.) The American people have responded magnificently, with courage and compassion, strength and resolve. As I have met the heroes, hugged the families, and looked into the tired faces of rescuers, I have stood in awe of the American people. And I hope you will join me -- I hope you will join me in expressing thanks to one American for the strength and calm and comfort she brings to our nation in crisis, our First Lady, Laura Bush. (Applause.) None of us would ever wish the evil that was done on September the 11th. Yet after America was attacked, it was as if our entire country looked into a mirror and saw our better selves. We were reminded that we are citizens, with obligations to each other, to our country, and to history. We began to think less of the goods we can accumulate, and more about the good we can do. For too long our culture has said, "If it feels good, do it." Now America is embracing a new ethic and a new creed: "Let's roll." (Applause.) In the sacrifice of soldiers, the fierce brotherhood of firefighters, and the bravery and generosity of ordinary citizens, we have glimpsed what a new culture of responsibility could look like. We want to be a nation that serves goals larger than self. We've been offered a unique opportunity, and we must not let this moment pass. (Applause.)... No nation owns these aspirations, and no nation is exempt from them. We have no intention of imposing our culture. But America will always stand firm for the non-negotiable demands of human dignity: the rule of law; limits on the power of the state; respect for women; private property; free speech; equal justice; and religious tolerance. (Applause.) America will take the side of brave men and women who advocate these values around the world, including the Islamic world, because we have a greater objective than eliminating threats and containing resentment. We seek a just and peaceful world beyond the war on terror... In a single instant, we realized that this will be a decisive decade in the history of liberty, that we've been called to a unique role in human events. Rarely has the world faced a choice more clear or consequential. Our enemies send other people's children on missions of suicide and murder. They embrace tyranny and death as a cause and a creed. We stand for a different choice, made long ago, on the day of our founding. We affirm it again today. We choose freedom and the dignity of every life. (Applause.) Steadfast in our purpose, we now press on. We have known freedom's price. We have shown freedom's power. And in this great conflict, my fellow Americans, we will see freedom's victory. Thank you all. May God bless. (Applause.)

rodham clinton REALITY CHECK bump! |
Had George Will written Sleaze, the sequel (the "sequel" is, of course, hillary) after 9-11-01, I suspect that he would have had to forgo the above conceit, as the doubt expressed in the setup phrase was, from that day forward, no longer operational. Indeed, assessing the clinton presidency an abject failure is not inconsistent with commentary coming from the left, most recently the LA Times: "Clinton Let Bin Laden Slip Away and Metastasize." When the clintons left office, I predicted that the country would eventually learn--sadly, the hard way--that this depraved, self-absorbed and inept pair had placed America (and the world) in mortal danger. But I was thinking years, not months. It is very significant that hillary clinton didn't deny clinton culpability for the terrorism. (Meet the Press, 12-09-01), notwithstanding tired tactics (if you can't pass the buck, spread the blame) and chronic "KnowNothing Victim Clinton" self-exclusion. If leftist pandering keeps the disenfranchized down in perpetuity, clinton pandering,("it's the economy, stupid"), kept the middle and upper classes wilfully ignorant for eight years. And ironically, both results (leftist social policy and the clinton economy) are equally illusory, fraudulent. It is becoming increasingly clear that clinton assiduously avoided essential actions that would have negatively impacted the economy--the ultimate source of his continued power--actions like, say, going after the terrorists. It is critically important that hillary clinton fail in her grasp for power; read Peggy Noonan's little book, 'The Case Against Hillary Clinton' and Barbara Olson's two books; it is critical that the West de-clintonize, but that will be automatic once it is understood that the clintons risked civilization itself in order to gain and retain power. It shouldn't take books, however, to see that a leader is a dangerous, self-absorbed sicko. People should be able to figure that out for themselves. The electorate must be taught to think, to reason. It must be able to spot spin, especially in this age of the electronic demagogue. I am not hopeful. As Bertrand Russell noted, "Most people would sooner die than think; in fact, they do so. " *George Will continues: There is reason to believe that he is a rapist ("You better get some ice on that," Juanita Broaddrick says he told her concerning her bit lip), and that he bombed a country to distract attention from legal difficulties arising from his glandular life, and that. ... Furthermore, the bargain that he and his wife call a marriage refutes the axiom that opposites attract. Rather, she, as much as he, perhaps even more so, incarnates Clintonism

When, like the Clinton crime family, you've had your fingers in almost every illegal scheme in operation for 8 long years, it's hard to find one that can be pinned on someone else that the Clinton crime family (including all Democrats) hasn't been involved in--up to their ears.
Edited, right? The President named the countries.

Q ERTY6 (clinton was an utter failure and the GOP had better exploit it) 4th-Estate Malfeasance (DEATH BY MISREPORT) REALITY CHECK bump! |
Good work!
I plead innocent. ;) The ellipsis and that phrase indicate that the names of those states were omitted. |
You know what will happen between now and November, though, doncha? Soon, it will be time for the Dems to start scaring the old folks again, making bogus claims about what Bush wants to do to Medicare and Social Security.
The question is: will the press give them a free ride? They may not this time. With the notable exception of the usual leftist extremists, like Helen Thomas, the media, overall, is treating Bush better than they have other Republicans. NOW DON'T YELL AT ME!! I SAID, 'BETTER,' NOT GOOD!! I think there are several reasons why this is the case, but that's fodder for another thread.
Nice work, Mia.
Q ERTY6 (clinton was an utter failure and the GOP had better exploit it) bump! We must take the offensive. Addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference today (C-SPAN), Bob Livingston dispatched "it's the economy, stupid," the clinton mantra -- (and together with the FBI files, the only thing that kept the rapist in the Oval Office and out of the slammer) -- with an incisiveness and toughness not usually associated with the GOP. (Is the right finally getting it?) Livingston said "it's the economy, stupid," demonstrated that clinton and his administration are either stupid, themselves, or they were derelict. |

These words - "I will not wait on events, while dangers gather. I will not stand by, as peril draws closer and closer... We can't stop short. If we stop now -- leaving terror camps intact and terror states unchecked -- our sense of security would be false and temporary...The price of indifference would be catastrophic. " just give me chills because we know President Bush understands the severity of the danger for the American people, and for our nation as a whole, and is committed to doing whatever he can as our Commander in Chief to preventing said disasters.
You are right, MiaT. The 'good guys' MUST find their GRIT, patterning on our President, and have the guts to stand up and say the truth: that without a determination and commitment to protect our country (which was totally missing during the Clinton crime years) - our nation is vulnerable to destruction. EVen with this new awareness of the danger and commitment by our President and most Americans to our defenses, such danger continues.
Had Algore gone into office, there is no question in my mind that the morph to nuke picture would have already occurred in this country.
The anti-American destroyers are still out there, continuing their work of undermining the safety and security of every American (for instance, in the defense of terrorists in the prison and elsewhere). I am ready to start imprisoning these people for their complicity with those out to kill us! But, I suppose....we are not at that point yet.
