Are people suggesting that Daniel is participating in a fake hostage situation? If he was a lefty that certainly would support his cause. I think the idea that he is in on this is ridiculous.

I would seriously doubt that Pearl had anything to do with it. The thing that is curious about this kidnapping is its somewhat amateurish quality, plus the fact that the people behind it don't seem to be the same as the usual crowd. Maybe Islamist computer geeks from the local cyber-cafe?

Actually, I don't mean to make it sound like a laughing matter. Sometimes "amateur" kidnappers are the most dangerous, because they panic.

I meant to say it certainly would NOT support his cause. If this was some lefty conspiracy, showing traditional Muslims with a gun to Daniel's head wouldn't make the case for them being a peaceloving people.
