Great post, Bunny. Thank you. Imagine having to take your own camel to work every morning like this guy?
Mohammed Amin drives his camel around in circles to squeeze oil from cotton seeds in Mazar-e-Sharif, northern Afghanistan.

What a sight that must have been. This would be the stuff for a good movie. We would need John Wayne to do it justice.

To battle rode George Washington
Upon my grandsire's courser,
And when the victory was won
The courser was no more, sir.
The faithful Steed had borne our race
In saddle, chaise, and pillion;
My father never saw his face,
But called him worth a million.

Thanks for the article!

We would need John Wayne to do it justice. Photoshop can make that happen:

It wasn't just that a double envelopment was accomplished after that and most of the Taliban got trapped at Kunduz.

THe Free Republic Gals kinda admire Mr. Rumsfeld' don't they? Hell, I do too, his sense of humor is similar to that of Jack Palance. The Press is in over their head, treading water and gasping for breath at every press conference. Life is good!

Am I the only one who has wondered it the airdrop of 200 rangers on a Taliban airfield was really intended to get them to pull troops away from Mazar-e Sharif prior to this offensive?

One of the best lessons of the Vietnam war is presented in this article. In Nam as in Korea we believed that we knew it all. We had defeated Hitler and ToJo and no other backward nation could possibly know what we knew. Our defeat in Nam taught the second Johns and Captains of that war, that the backward nations may know a thing or two about fighting in their nation. The kids of Nam are the generals in charge. And some are just those trained by the kids of Nam. In any event we appear to have learned our lessons well.
Tis time we went in seeing how our power and might could assist our surrogates in gaining a victory. As you can see the combination of Horses and Star Wars bombs worked to perfection.
It also proved a very good lesson. Air superiority can not win a war. But Air superiority behind a poor quality ground force can achieve spectacular victory over a much superior ground force.
There is much anger in the world against us, but there is now the beginnings of major fear. The bad guys will never love us, but they are beginning to fear us. That is a wonderful achievement for our long term safety.
