As a FedEx employee, I can tell you that
increased security is hardly the word for it. All crew members must now have their baggage scanned and must be wanded/patted down before embarking. No employees are allowed to jumpseat anymore (used to be a HUGE benefit). I'm sure no FedEx crew is blocking out until the engineer or the first officer has searched the flight deck, bathroom, jumpseat area, etc. for undesireables. Other than that small area, the rest of the plane is loaded with containers, and they're so tightly packed together that no stowaway would ever be able to get out until the container is again unloaded from the airplane.
The Feds have been prowling all our airport locations, attempting to sneak in / aboard. If they are successful, we are subject to huge fines. We've stopped every one of them since 9/11. All employees are burdened with the task of challenging anyone without proper identification, and are subject to punishment including and up to termination for not challenging unidentified strangers.
Seriously, that's good news. I am sincerely glad to hear that.
good job, brew. sounds like FEX is on it. Of course, FEX is a PRIVATE SECTOR company, not a goobermint operation.....
But security is still penetrable.
Thanks, that took a little worry off.
