U.S. intelligence agencies have issued an internal alert that Islamic terrorists are planning another spectacular attack to rival those carried out on September 11.

The detailed warning was issued within the past two weeks in a classified report that said one target was a U.S. nuclear power plant or one of the Energy Department's nuclear facilities.

#42:"We still aren't taking this seriously."

I agree, but I have to add, I think we initially took it seriously.

Something very wrong has happened to our culture; Americans no longer have the ability to retain memories of significant events gone by.

Most are unable to filter out the incessant bombardment of trash that’s flung at us on a daily basis. We're distracted moment by moment, hour by hour.

We’ve been overfed, placed under a shade tree and had a nose ring inserted....

I'd love to know if that small private plane that went into the Pacific just off the coast near the nuclear plant just north of San Diego (and not far from Camp Pendleton) was actually a scouting mission.
As I recall the people aboard were a brother and sister of Middle Eastern origin...
IIRC one died as a result of the crash/ditching. This happened sometime in November or December, I think.

Not certain if this is the one you mean, but also interesting whether it is or not:

San Jose Mercury - 19:02 30 Jan 2002

Small plane crash lands at San Diego Marine base

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- A small private plane crashed Wednesday while trying to land at a Marine Corps base, killing one person and injuring another.

The experimental plane, registered in Alberta, Canada, apparently ran out of fuel while flying over the La Jolla area of San Diego and requested permission to land at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, said Lt. Joshua Rushing, a spokesman for the base.

It crashed short of a runway at the base about 40 minutes after taking off from Montgomery Field in San Diego, authorities said.

The injured victim, a 44-year-old man, was listed in critical condition at Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego.

The names of the victims were not immediately available.

The crash occurred about 45 minutes before the scheduled start of a memorial at the San Diego base for two Marines who were killed in a Jan. 20 helicopter crash in Afghanistan. The crash site was not visible from where mourners gathered.

Earlier this month, seven other Marines based at Miramar died when their KC-130 fuel transport plane crashed in Pakistan.

Prime example: I have a German friend that is married to an American soldier. The German government does not recognize the marriage, she is considered single to them.

Well, you know, they probably think it pollutes the master race.

Hey, how do you make a German march?

Play music...

... Any music.

19th and 20th century civil service reform is definitely underestimated as a cause of the decay of popular government in the United States. Why shouldn't the spoils -- i.e. the ability to appoint people to positions in the executive branch of government -- belong to the victor -- that is, the elected President? Why should the people be stuck for life with the civil servants of a different era, whose politics and policies they may have repudiated at the polls? True, the old system meant a lot of jobs were given out as political rewards, but that also meant they were given to people who would support the elected President and Chief Executive of the United States. Typical reformist distaste for the inevitable crudities of popular government - the same mentality that clamors for campaign finance reform.

Thanks for the post...but I don't think that's the one.
The one I heard about happened late last year...and I think was an actual ditching of
a small private plane in the water (Pacific).

On Sep, 11th when the jet went down in PA I looked for a "natural" target. While some "suggest" that the jet was "downed." I looked instead for a proximity target.

One of the contracts I formally worked on was with the NRC and that of course led me to look at nuclear facilities.

The proximity of the Beaver River power plants was alarming.

At that time there was literally mapquest maps pointing to it and terra server at MSFT had nice pics of some plants as well to.

Soooo.. somebody finally awoke to the possibility of this type of attack????

Naaaaaa... these scenarios were envisioned in many TSC reports, there are 24x7 groups that exercise war games at war colleges. Imagining that this is some new revelation or risk assesment is absurd. As absurd as having a cardboard door on a cockpit from the perspective of the Isreali airport secuirty folks.

Don't get me wrong these facilities need to be defended, but I'm essentially wary of the "mass movement" mentallity that the WhiteHouse is exhibiting with a "mix of Religion and Government" that the POTUS has pushed previously to 9-11.

Before I embark on the crusades, or mix religous fervor and fighting words, I'm reminded that the separation of Church and State are essential to our freedoms. There seems to be way to much emphasis on security at the costs of personal freedoms when the security issues themselves "were" and "are" a product of "neglect" and "apathy" of the very groups whom "always" had the responsibility of the safety of these assets.

The scariest part was that the Taliban rose to power under the guise of security, restoring religous piety, and an emphasis on a "mass movement" mentallity that precluded any democratic input.

While I fully acknowledge the "OBVIOUS" risk that stored materials of a nuclear reactor pose, the sudden revalation and sensationalization of this risk makes it apparent that the "asleep at the wheel crowd" found a microphone.

Cessna crash kills 1, 1 hurt

Associated Press

Aviation Coast Guard pulls victims from ocean after plane crashes just south of San Onofre nuclear plant. From staff, news-service reports One person died and another was critically injured Tuesday when a single-engine plane crashed off the coast two miles south of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.

The victims were pulled from the water by the U.S. Coast Guard. One victim was airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla and was in critical condition stemming from hypothermia, officials said.

The Coast Guard in San Diego and the hospital had not released the names of the victims as of Tuesday night. The body of a woman in her 20s was recovered at the scene.

The pilot reportedly told air traffic controllers the plane was experiencing engine trouble.

Federal Aviation officials say the four-seat plane took off from Palomar and was headed to Hawthorne when it crashed at 3:06 p.m. about two miles from the shore, northwest of Oceanside and south of the San Onofre plant.

The Cessna was traveling in airspace that was not restricted, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

San Diego authorities and Coast Guard helicopters all responded to the crash.

The cause of the accident was being invested by the National Transportation Safety Board. Register staff writers Elizabeth Aguilera and Jeff Collins and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Lovely. On another thread, I made a comment on Bush's speech today at the Mariott Marquis in Atlanta. During the speech, he made a comment about the INS doing their job, and keeping people who shouldn't be in this country, out of the country. The spontaneous applause from the crowd on this point was tremendous.

I think Ferdinand and Isabella had it right.
