A rookery is where rooks nest, one usually sees thirty or forty large nests high up in tall trees. You do not have Rooks in America but you have crows which are related.
They are very common in England.

We have a big blue heron nesting site close to me. It's called a blue heron rookery...I know about the rooks in Britain and the rook rifles they use to have there...
Maybe it's just the Yanks screwing up the Queens english, lol
