Why what? Why we don't need police refusing to enforce the law? Because we don't need police making the law.

"The Maryland Gestapo thinks that no matter how long ago your felony was, you should be kept for LIFE from ever being able to exercise the RKBA. Even if you're a Vietnam Vet and acknowledged "citizen of the year."

Uh, these folks are losing their firearms rights over MISDEMEANOR CONVICTIONS, not felonies, based on the POSSIBLE MAXIMUM SENTENCE for the misdemeanor (not actual sentence).

Damn Lautenberg's soul to Hades.

I don't see were Mr. Arnold did anything wrong, IMO, except that he went to a bar in the first place. He was a soldier and was defending himself against verbal abuse. I hope he smacked that cowardly, communist around.

Uhhh.... that sounds ridiculous. I get to lose my RKBA cause I forgot to pay a traffic ticket and was convicted of a misdeamonor count afterwards? shudder< This country is carooming down the slopes to outright fascism.

The state of Maryland is starting at the wrong end of the Pareto Principle (as do most PC'ers and politicians). They are not preventing crime in the most efficient and cost effective way.

Earth to Flyer: Unconstitutional gun confiscation laws ARE worthless!

As one that has been devastated financialy by a bail bond, attorney fees and fine, and spent 4 days in jail because of an unconstitutional gun law in Texas, I would argue that the law was not worthless to the State.

===========

§ 46.02. Unlawful Carrying Weapons

(a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his person a handgun, illegal knife, or club.

===========

I will forever be branded a weapons violator. If my drivers license should be checked on a traffic stop you can bet the dispatcher will add "Subject may be armed".

Maryland State Police seized firearms from Larry L. Dicken's home outside Cumberland in August, even taking with them his hunting rifle

Hopefully those of you still foolish enough to believe that they're only after "bad guns" and would never confiscate hunting/sporting guns, noticed this.

No question, it "is" ridiculous. Unless, of course, you realize that the REAL INTENT is to remove firearms from any hands except those of government (i.e. "..police and the military.." as the gun-grabbers are so fond of saying). They firmly believe that NO ONE, however law-abiding, should be allowed to own any kind of firearm (actually projectile weapon).

Your so right...MISDEMEANORS not felonies here.

And stretching it to possible convictions not actual opens the door ten feet wide.

Confiscation without allowing you to "sell-to-a buddy" til you have a chance to take the police state officals to court is nothing more than a Nazi practice.

What can us freepers do for this guy?

Don't the police have better things tho do with their time than looking through 20 and 30 year old records?

We have real criminals out there and the "law enforcement" /sarcasm will use our tax dollars to go after the citizens that pay their very salaries.

Criminals usually avoid paying taxes; we citizens pay to the taxes and this is the result.

Time for rebeliion.

There is no way this man should lose his right to carry.

He's lost his right to possess, that is to keep, as well as his right to carry, that is to bear.

"Ve are only following orders"

"Trust me. In a lot of these cases, I'm sympathetic, but
I'm governed by the law," said Maj. Thomas Bowers,
chief of detectives for Maryland State Police.

A small point: If you desire to include the sidebar such as you did in your post, take a little time to edit the links in it so that they point to the correct place. Most such links are "relative" not "absolute." You can fix this with a text editor as simple as NotePad, by 'search and replace'.

Screw MD.

People who want a state that RESPECTS thier rights should either move one stae North or South. I did. Otherwise you have NO room to complain.

MD is a LOST CAUSE.

Someone guilty of blasphemy or disorderly conduct, for example, would lose the same rights as someone convicted of assault.

Huh???

What is legal blasphemy?

they have already stated their goal

On the six-month anniversary of the murders at Columbine High School,
Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. today took the first
bold step toward making Maryland the most handgun-free state in the country.

Through the release of his report,
A Farewell to Arms: The Solution to Gun Violence in America,
Attorney General Curran outlined the first step toward making
Maryland the first state in the nation to outlaw handgun ownership except in very limited
circumstances. Curran’s report contains a three-part plan to reach his goal of restricting the sale
and possession of handguns to only those who can demonstrate a legitimate law enforcement
purpose or those who can guarantee their guns will be used
only in regulated sporting activities.
