Maybe Elves aren't real - but they should be, don't you think?

Definitely! They've always been one of my favorite parts of the book. Imagine, being able to talk to someone with three thousand years of experience, knowledge, wisdom! As someone who plays a musical instrument, I've always wondered what it would be like to listen to an elf musician who presumably has had at least a thousand years or so to perfect his skills..not to mention their poets, their architects, etc., etc.

It's mind-boggling just thinking about the possibilities.

Yes; and it's interesting when you read Silmarillion, to see how they spend their time. There are the ones who spend years and years planning cities, and then the ones who march off and attack Morgoth... the Elves seem to be the best at everything, which is natural. I imagine an Elf like, say, Glorfindel, could easily be a great warrior simply from having lots of time to practice.

When you really think about it, it's no wonder that Thingol didn't want his daughter marrying a Human, and no surprise that Elrond insisted that Aragorn be king of Gondor and Arnor both before he could marry Arwen!
