Top 10 Reasons Why The Patriots Will Winn The Super Bowl
CNN-SI ^ | 1-27-02 | vanity (of course)

10. They will be huge underdogs (see Pittsburgh)

9. Georgia Frantiere is already getting measured for her huge rings (see also Bill Cowher ordering Hotel rooms for New Orleans)

8. The last game they lost (and barely) was against St. Louis, back when Brady was still green

7. Coach Belichick is coaching his arse off, and can game plan against anybody.

6. During their 8-game run, they shut down the top running backs in the league Curtis Martin, Edgerine James, Jerome Bettis (etc)

5. St Louis will now have to prepare a gameplan against 2 Pro-Bowl quarterbacks

4. Patriot cornerbacks have shut down every Hall-Of-Fame bound recievers (Rice and Brown, plus those whiners in Pittsburgh)

3. They've dominated every game on special teams, and make big plays

2. They have few, if any, stars. What they have is discipline, like the Marines

Which brings me to my #1 reason why they'll win the Super Bowl....

They're PATRIOTS, and of all years where patriotism has come back in vogue, THIS IS IT

If the Rams win, anyone think The Queen of Concrete Swim Fins will embarrass herself on the podium the way she did two years ago?

Seven interceptions and three fumble recoveries in the last two games. That's why a week from today New England will be 0-3 in the Big Dance.

Hey, is Michael Bishop still with the Patriots?

Nope. The P-men's QB core consists of Brady, Bledsoe and Huard.

#1-10. Kordell Stewart is the most useless QB the Steelers have had since Cliff Stout.

"Marshall Faulk and Kurt Warner are not Jerome Bettis and Kordell Stewart. "

Marshall Faulk only carried for 83 yards in week 10. He'll need to do better than that on Sunday.

The guys that fumbled the ball, enjoyed a really bad call from the refs, and won vs. the Raiders. The Rams will destroy the Pats by 17.

I don't believe Michael Bishop was picked up by any other team after the Patriots cut him in August. Maybe he'll catch on with that new expansion team down in Texas for next year. From what I read, Belichick did not think that Bishop has the right stuff to be an NFL quarterback. I do remember Bishop getting a significant amount of playing time in pre-season and he didn't show much. That was when Belichick made Brady the No. 2 quarterback, relegating Damon Huard to No. 3 on the depth chart, which was a shocker at the time as Brady was a complete unknown and Huard had had some success down in Miami.

There is no doubt that the Patriots have some serious depth at the QB position right now. We have three quarterbacks that could conceivably start for at least half the teams in the NFL.

That's a sad statement. At one level I understand what Belichick is saying. At another level, I realize that Bishop is an awesome athlete. He's the kind of athlete you want to get at 12 years old and say, "do baseball or soccer instead of football, because pro football won't have a place for you."

The problem for Bishop is the style of football played that pro q'backs must fit into. Handoff, drop, pass; handoff, drop, pass...an occasional scramble.

College offenses come in so many more varieties.
