Backhoe posted this link to Fire Departments across the country by State. I personally "adopted" the state of Alabama. I'm sending e-mails to all e-addies that are posted going through each site. It takes a while, but hopefully it will get us the signatures we need. Here's my letter, in case someone wishes to copy or do something similar.
Subject: Online Petition re FDNY flag raising statue
Dear Fire Fighters and other wonderful Public Servants,
Please look at the petition below and pass around to everyone you know. We have reached the 100,000 milestone and hope to reach 250,000, with hopes that the new statue will be designed as originally depicted.
"We the undersigned citizens of the United States, and concerned citizens from other nations, hereby petition the New York City Fire Department and the City of New York as follows regarding the proposed statue depicting the raising of the US flag at ground zero of the WTC attack by firefighters on September 11, 2001. "
Thank you for your service to our communities,

If you see anything that needs correcting, please let me know. Also, how can we go about trying to get others to adopt a state?
I adopted Florida, unfortunately I've been getting a lot of my emails returned with the following message:
----- The following address had permanent fatal errors -----
UGH!
OK, "all".... how about it?
