NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A woman who bared her breasts at Mardi Gras and got worldwide exposure has sued the producers of the ``Girls Gone Wild'' videos, claiming they invaded her privacy and used her image without permission.
Becky Lynn Gritzke, a Florida State University business major, admits in her lawsuit that she was among the women who removed their tops at Mardi Gras last year in exchange for beads and trinkets.
A month later, Gritzke said, she was surprised to find out that she not only appeared in the video series featuring women baring their bodies, but was also seen in the TV ad and Web site.
Gritzke is seeking unspecified damages.
Ronald E. Guttman, an attorney for MRA Holdings LLC, the video's producers, said there is no privacy protection for people who take their clothes off in public, especially at a big public event where many people have cameras.
Guttman has asked a Florida court to dismiss the lawsuit, which was filed in September.

Too bad. When I lived in Mobile, over ten years ago, one of the attractions of Mardi Gras in the Azalea City was that it was still family fare, unlike what had taken over New Orleans. Ten years ago? You should see (N.O. that is) it now. Absolutely sickeninggathering of filth, of every kind you can imagine. It's all there, out in the open. The police are out of it unless it gets physical like snatch and grab robberies and fighting.
No place for a family.

What say you? Does she have a case? I would think not being that she was in a public place at a public event, and apparantly it would seem she 'posed' for the camera. Unless she is claiming that she had no idea that the guy staring at her through a video camera actually had video tape in it.

I would think that being in a public place at a public event would lend her to not have a case. Isnt that the law that the paparatzi (sp?) use to take photos of celebrities and sell them for money?
And I wonder if when she exposed her puppies for the camera man if she thought that he didnt have any video tape in his camera.

After the sun goes down, Mardi Gras hasn't been a "family affair" in the 20 years I've been going. The Quarter is wild pretty much nonstop during the late afternoon and evening. No surprise there, just as you shouldn't expect to have a wholesome family outing to Key West at Halloween.

Whoa! Does she have a license to carry those?

The police are out of it unless it gets physical like snatch and grab Woah, now that would make for a raunchy video!

I waited and waited but it turns out that is not an animated gif file. Oh well, too bad.

I am sure the photos of her could have been much worse. Baring the breasts was probably quite tame compared to what she did later.

Im trying to recall what was discussed in my Public Relations class back in college, and I think it is not an issue with celebrities because they have "put themselves in the public arena" so to speak, and are fair game. The point of being a celebrity is that your picture is everywhere. Im not sure though, you may be right. I think a private individual, who has not put themselves in the public arena like a politician or actor/actress, is due compensation for use of their likeness. Like I said, I may be off. It will be interesting to see, that is, if this reaches court.

I like
Delbert's idea. If beads were of high enough value to get her to expose her breats, the video company should make her an out of court settlement offer to be paid in beads.
Even though she wouldnt accept (I suspect) it would be wonderful for them to actually submit the offer to her and get her reaction.
