Amazing what this society's coming to isn't it?
To: FourtySeven
A court forced the couple to return the girl to her birth mother after their attorney at the time failed to terminate her parental rights. Whomever the judge was needs to be impeached, and probably jailed.

They just convicted and sentenced a geek in Niigata, Japan to 14 years imprisonment, for himself imprisoning a young girl for, catch this: Nine Years and 2 Months. That's right, he just pulled her off the street when she was ten and she was let out of his room (his mother was aware all that time) when she was 19! Incredible.

"..Officials say the girl has gained weight and begun to grow but is at risk of never reaching her potential..."
Yes. Her emotional and mental development has been retarded to a very poor state. It looks like she will now, or eventually become a ward of the state.

the sentence was handed down today, it's probably on Yahoo News somewhere. its all over the Japanese press.
To: AmericanInTokyo
Wow! That's incredible!

I heard this story before on some news show. Actually, if there can be any measure of good that may come out of it, it may be that the people that originally wanted to adopt her really do seem like they love her. I think they'll get custody.

It's amazing that she has recovered to the extent that she has, and I'm not going to be the one to curse this child so that she doesn't reach whatever potential she has. Children can achieve so much more when they're surrounded by a loving family.

I saw this fat sow on tv, she not only has never missed a meal, she never missed anyone else's either.

Amazing what this society's coming to isn't it? "This society" is going to put this woman in jail for the rest of her life.
In a former generation, she might not even be prosecuted.
"This society" is rightly telling parents they can't treat their children like dirt.

Looks like NOW has another poster mom to rally behind.
To: Hacksaw
There is a day I pray for when this country and its court system finally start to use simple common sense when it comes to the affairs of the children. If parents say they dont want their children then give them to someone who will take them. Not all of this constant counseling that is only designed to make these unfit parents believe that they can be good parents. This is one of the worst crimes imaginable. Those parents punishment should be to live the rest of their lives the way they made her live.
To: FourtySeven
depriving her of food while locked in a closet for months at a time.appropriate sentence for the mother.
To: sinkspur
Point taken, but my point is this society is what produced such a person to begin with.
To: FourtySeven
I read in our local papers that her siblings knew her only as "the closet girl."
I hope this monster gets what's coming to her.
