A part of the islamic youths in the west is getting involved in the dark scene of extremist internetcommunities. From there the call to travel to Afghanistan, Kasmir, or another countries where there is armed confilct.
Just a few hours back the news came in that two young Moroccans from Eindhoven (Dutch city) were shot dead because they attacked an Indian borderpartol with knives. 'Farid26' types one scentence on the forum of the website Maghreb Online: "Many have gone before them." He also includes a link to the stories of 'martriers on the site of the English publisher Azzam. Who is seeking an answer to the question where a number of extremistic muslimyouths get their radical statements, the source can be found here.
Maybe it will never be known if Ahmed el Bakiouli and Khalid el Hassnaoui, Moroccan boys of 20 and 21 years from Eindhoven, knew Azzam too. El Bakiouli could have bragged on the internet about his duty to do 'el hidjra', meaning to turn his back from his own enviroment and to leave for a strict islamic country. But he seemed to be serious when he left a message behind on Maroc.nl about the wrah of allah that would come to those who would not go to Afghanistan to support their brothers there.
"If you do not help your brothers when they need your help the most, do you really think that allah would help you on judgement day, when you need it the most?", El Bakiouli asked in November to his fellow-discussors on Maroc.nl. That question is also asked by the owners of the publisher Azzam in London. Azzam is named after the Palestinian sheikh Azzam, a good friend of Osama bin Modammed bin Laden.
The call to help brothers in need is found in the departing message of the enterprise, that dates from November. The owners suspectd that their site would be closed soon, like it already happened before, and decided to leave a 'will' behind. The reader is being asked to join the mujahideen now, the muslimfighters in countries as Afghanistan and Pakistan. "On this moment a lot of muslims ask themselves: is it the end for the mujahideen? Did the west won? These are not the questions that muslims should asked themselves, but more like: who's side I'm on? Am I a 'moderate' or an 'extremist'? Was the prophet Mohammed a 'modrerate' or an 'extremist'? What I am going to with this situation? Am I going to cry at home? Pray in a mosque? The mujahideen that died, have got nothing to worry about. They vowed to fight to the last drop of blood and did not break their promise."
Azzam plays a key role in the distribution of extremist propaganda. A lot of images and texts that show up, are translations or edited versions of Azzam originals. In the Netherlands Azzam manifested earlier with the site 'Qoqaz', property of a foundation in The Hague, that encourages Dutch muslims to train for an armed fight, by joining sport-schools and shooting-ranges. Azzam maintaines sites like these arounf the world, in many different languages. The company published until shortly also a newsletter, with also Dutch subscribers.
The owners of Azzam do not want to be interviewed: "For interviews we do not have time and we cannot see what good it will do to us", they let us know. "Muslims over the whole world want to support the Taliban as much as they can", the departure meaasge concludes. "If that means that you have to stop studying or working for a year, so be it." Now 'the enemy' is attacking an islamic country, the djihad (jihad) becomes a religous duty for every muslim in the world, without permission from anyone, parents, teachers or imams. "We believe that every muslim that is able to go, but doesn't, will be punished in the after-life by allah. He will only exempt people who have got physical disabilities."
But the site of Azzam is not closed. Secret services are keeping a close eye on it. Azzam has closed it's internetshop for it's safety. But it is not difficult to get hold of the many videotapes, books and cassets that where sold until shortly. Azzam tells to go to publisher Maktabah al Ansaar, an online strore with the same symphaties. Maktabah writes: "Eventualy we will have to fight, because the disbeleivers will do their utmost to prevent the forming of an islamic state." Adres and a telephone-number in Birmingham are also given. But there is no one answering the phone there.
We order three books. A bundle with the biography of sjeikh Azzam and the decleration of war by Osama bin Laden, a in Uagust published reprint of 'Join the caravan' -printed by Azzam during the Russian-Afghan war- and Azzams' 'To the defence of islamic countries', a theological representation of armed struggle. We also order videotapes: 'Warriors of Tsetjchen, the forgotten mujahideen', 'The jihad in Tsetjchenia' and 'Lovers of martryrdom'. The Tsetjchen war is just like the conficts in Kashmir and the Palestinain areas almost as a mythical example of the holy war.
Two weeks after the order -via e-mail, payment with credit-card-, a brown package arrives with th epost. "There has been 43 pounds deducted from your credit, a included note says: "Sixteen pounds for shipment. With compliment, Maktabah al Ansaar."
Every time there is a terrorist cell detained, they are there: films about the war in Tsetjchenia' and speeches from Bin Laden. Also these tapes were found in an appartment in 'De Kempanaerstraat' in Rotterdam, were the Dutch police arrested four men in September that were suspected of planning a bombing of th American embassy in Paris. "Those tapes are no evidence, of course", the DA-officer said during a trail, "But they do show in what kind of mental state these people are. It is material for people with a strong stomach.
'Warriors of Tsetjchen, the forgotten mujahideen' has been copied so many times that the images are stained and almost without color. The English voice-over tells of the Tsetjchen war and how the muslims want to erect a islamic state and how the Russians intervened violently to stop the forming of thi state. It is a film about the courage of th muslimfighters: through wind and weather, in snow and sun, they shoot their way through the rugged terrain and sometimes succeed to kill a Russian soldier or shoot down a plane.
'The jihad in Tsetjchenia' , a film dating from 1999, is maore about the grief caused to the Tsjetsjens. Scared people on a market, the sound of bombardments on the background. Wounded, crying childeren, elderly woman that cry about their killed sons. And rows and rows of corpses, sometimes heavy mutilated. You got only one choice, the viewer is told with great sacrasm. You have to accept this, let yourself be shot or run away. Because if you join the resistance, you are called a terrorist.
A wounded man says: "Alle Russians are sons of b*****. They only kill innocent people. I am not a warrior, but let me kill Putin. Allah is great!" A voise echoes in Arabic a ballade of the suffering of the Tsjetsjen people. "Are you going to keep on watching television at homre or are you going to do something about it?"
The film is critical of the 'so-called islamic' countries like Egypt and Saudi-Arabia, that are jsut watching from the side. 'Sinister', the film is making us believe. From the unbelievers you cannot expect anything.
On the bodies of the Russian soldiers, on their dismembered body-parts, there is a long zoom-in. Of a wounded fighter the blanket is removed to show the palce where once his leg was. A pile of human intestans is shamless being lifted and pushed under the lens of the camera. On the blood-stained face of a dead child the camera seems to hang endless. It is a combination with the call for more violence that is being repeated throughout the tape. You think of just who is wanting to watch these tapes, on an 'evening watching jihad'.
In the film 'Lovers of the martryrdom' (subtitle 'words written in blood') dozens if fighters die for islam. "They feel no pain of the death, accept a little sting.
The dying or already dead fighters on Bosnia, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Tadzjkistan, Tsjetsjenia and Palestina are being pictured as happy. The camera zokms in on their laughing mounths, thier clean bodies. Of some of them is told in Arabic that they witnessed micacles. "Their skulls have become like fortresses". Also some fighters are filmed that are a moment later commiting a suicide-bombing. And while body-parts and blood fly abound the place, the sound of upheaving battle hymns is heard.
The compliation of dying-scenes is being accompanied by speeches of scholars that support the jihad. And also sheikh Abdullah Azzam speaks, Azzam was a Palestine, born in 1944, when the British were in control of Palestina. In November 1989 he was killed in Afghanistan by a bomb. For Azzam the fight was holy. The publisher that was named after him states about this sheikh that he changed "the thoughts of muslims about the jihad in Afghanistan. He presented the jihad as an islamic cause that was supported by all the muslims in the whole world. And soon foreign volunteers from all corners of the world were traveling to Afghanistan.
Sheikh Azzam is hammering in his writings on the concern of 'foreign fighters' that have to travel to Bosnai, Afghanistan or Kashmir to defned the islamic countries. In 'The defence of islamic countries': "Those of the Arab people that can do jihad in Palestina, must start there. If he cannot do this, must go to Afghanistan. The non-Arabic muslims can best start their jihad in Afghanistan."
Azzam is wiping the floor with muslimleaders that disencourage their followers to go into battle. "What has happenedto the imams, that they do not advice sincere the people who ask them about going into battle with their hart and soul on allahs' road? How long will true-believing youths be stopped of participating the jihad? These youths. Their harts blazing with the fire, they are eager, and hope with all their hart to shed their blood on the land of the muslims."
One thing is sure: not all western muslimyouths are in support of an armed struggle. But even at the Leidense Instituut for the study of the islam in the modern world no-one knows why the propaganda is influencing a part of the younger people, why some of them are convinced that brothers and sisters everywhere in the world are being oppressed while being innocent and believe that a good muslim has to leave his good life in the west behind to do jihad. To put it in the words of Sheikh Azzam: 'Lo! Muslims, jihad is your life. Your dignity and honor are depending on it."
No. Muslims wish to dominate us, which in my opinion is worse.
That is a VERY GOOD and IMPORTANT question, and we all know the answer!!!!
Not only do the hadith prove the muslim-appeasers wrong, but so does the subsequent history of islam.
After the early ummah cleansed the Arabian penninsula of non-muslims, islamic armies overran the Holy Land, Syria, Mesopotamia, Persia, North Africa, and Spain, and reached the gates of Constantinople. They were stopped from overruning the rest of Europe by Charles Martel in the west and the Byzantines in the East.
Later, under the Ottoman Turks, the muslims overran Southeastern Europe, and reached the gates of Vienna. There they were stopped by Jan Sobieski et al. The Serbs and the Greeks were largely responsible for turning the muslim Turk out of the Balkans, but it was a long, bloody struggle, and the Crescent still rules Constantinople.
Now that islam has all that oil wealth, and all the opportunities provided by a "globalized" world, an all too de-Christianized West, and a New World Order that needs a dispersed thug army as its "enforcers", it is trying for world domination yet a third time. The outcome is still in doubt.
