Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

Dainbramage was taken so VoiceofBruck popped in your head? No, just kidding; I would've never thought of Dain Bramage. But I do enjoy your eccentric posts; keep up the good work.
Bruck is a nickname I picked up on the local amateur radio airwaves, and the Voice of Bruck News Service (a takeoff on the Voice of America News Service) is a humorous little website I publish.

See
this and
this for the real explaination of danebriamage.
I have an interest in genealogy. One line is traced back to the 12th century Cambro-Flemish-Norman family ""FitzGodebert de la Roche" in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Some of the family joined Strongbow in the Norman invasion of Ireland where they were fruitful and multiplied.

I used a self-descriptor at the time I signed up.
At that time, I had my second wife take off on me, thus making me a single dad. As a result, my military career was tanked and I chose to resign. And as a parting gift, she left me with a hatload of debt to include the IRS. 2000 was not a good year for me personally. "Screwed" was too unimaginative.

"There really was a Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club?" Yes there was. All US Navy and Coast Guard ships that served in the Tonkin Gulf and their crews are members. Jim Robinson is also a member.
I understand the membership dues are pretty high.
Thank you for your service, sir.

Constitution Day is September 17, the day in 1787 that the Constitution was signed.
The Constitution is 183 years older than me (you do the math).
I thought it would be nice to point out this often overlooked date in our country's history.

Oh, by the way, Sept. 17th is also my birthday.

My dyslexic little friend, my moniker was stolen from my retriever, not from Ralph O'Rourke, the notorious pukemeister.

What better image can a gun nut have than the one afforded by this handle?

The name 'Jhensy' refers to obscure minor league outfielder Jhensy Sandoval of the Arizona Diamondbacks. I was given this nickname for no particular reason by a fellow sports editor. He has since been christened 'Spooneybarger', for Tim Spooneybarger, obscure middle reliever for the Atlanta Braves. A childish bunch, we.

You're living in your own Private Idaho
Living in your own Private Idaho
Underground like a wild potato.
Don't go on the patio.
Beware of the pool,
blue bottomless pool.
It leads you straight
right throught the gate
that opens on the pool. You're living in your own Private Idaho,
where do I go from here to a better state than this.
Well, don't be blind to the big surprise
swimming round and round like the deadly hand
of a radium clock, at the bottom, of the pool.
Born, raised and still living in my own Private Idaho (real audio link)
