Yes. And Fellay won't get his special prelature nor be allowed to trash Vatican II at will.

The SSPX will fold like a cheap suitcase.

28,000 Lefebvre Catholics is a major schism? This is like saying a camel who sheds a hair has lost a major body part.

Why has the Breaking News section suddenly become a proving ground for Catholic issues?

And once the SSPXers are safely back in the fold, after a decent interval, they can finally and fully outlaw the Latin Mass. That's been the Vatican's aim from the start.

Thanks be to God! Thanks be to Our Lady, Mother of the Church, for her intercession before Him! Thanks be to holy St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church, for his intercession before the Throne of Christ! This is great news!

I was at a conference this past weekend with the 'Latin Mass' magazine folks. A couple of interesting things were mentioned there.

This 'Campos' compromise and its history was explained.

As for SSPX, a person at the conference in a real position to know was personally begging Fallay to accept the compromise now offered by the Vatican.

The buzz around Rome is that they may make a separate rite out of the Latin Tridentine Mass with its own bishops and structure (like the Byzantine, Maronite, etc.)

And I forgot to add that they said that the GOs are watching the Latin Rite deal very closely. Because the old Mass closely parallels their liturgy, they want the Trid Mass issue settled before they will talk seriously about coming back to Rome.

I'm afraid we are still some way from full reconciliation between SSPX and Rome.

The latest development (some time ago) in these negotiations, as I understand it, was that SSPX was offered a prelature similar to that of Opus Dei, which would enable it to work in any diocese without the local bishop's permission. Bishop Fellay's response to this was to impose two conditions, which SSPX considers non-negotiable, as I understand it. Firstly, the excommunications imposed on the bishops consecrated by Lefebvre must be lifted and secondly, the Tridentine Mass must be accessable to any priest who wishes to celebrate it at any time.

After the passing of several months, the Vatican has yet to reply to these demands as far as I know.

My family views VII & the atendant changes in ritual as emblomatic of the degredation of the will & constitution of the Church. We, regretably, live just a block from a site of some of the worst preist-child rapes in the US & have yet to see any serious apology to the parishners-the public statements of regret were boiler-plate lawyer-talk for 'please don't sue us again'. Indeed, the bishop was well aware of the problem before the preist was moved to this parish.

Our Church had already become a very active agency for the left-wing, nihilistic, socialist schemes of the federal government-accepting & dispersing vast sums of TAX money to carry out social engineering of the worst sort. Prior to the horrid attacks on the altar-boys, we already had great difficulty with these left-wing policies. The Church aids & assists the very invasion of this country by criminal aliens-& heartily approves of their behavior.

We have looked into the Old Rites, hoping to find the more conservative vein of the Church, but find the policy 'allowing' the celebration of the Rite to be so discriminatory as to appear like a punishment of those who seek to follow in tradition.

Obviously, the Church will endure, but, in Its current state, without our support.
