And once the SSPXers are safely back in the fold, after a decent interval, they can finally and fully outlaw the Latin Mass. That's been the Vatican's aim from the start.

Whatever. Ever hear of the Society of St. Peter?

The Latin Mass has NEVER been outlawed. The Tridentine Mass was forbidden after Vatican II, but was later permitted by John Paul II.
It's not the Latin Mass that's the big hang up with the SSPX; it's Vatican II.
JPII is going to insist on acceptance of Vatican II for full communion, and he's not going to allow the Tridentine Mass to be celebrated by any priest any time he wants.

Why do you say that?
I'd love to know why you think the Vatican wants to "outlaw" the Latin Mass, I hadn't heard or read anything that would lead me to believe that, but on the other hand, I haven't read anything that leads me to doubt you.
Would appreciate some info if you can.

The issue is not to outlaw the "Latin Mass". It is between The Mass of Pius V (Tridentine Mass) and the Mass of Paul VI (Novus Ordo, or New Mass).
In fact the New Mass is a "Latin Mass" because:
1) It is the Mass of the Latin or Roman Rite
2) It is promulgated in Latin, and Latin is its "offical" language
3) It cannot not be translated from Latin into any other language unless the Pope give an indult (N.B. Such permission has never been turn down since Vatican II. So much so that many people do not know that the NEW MASS is a LATIN MASS

You've nailed it on the head. Look at what the Vatican promised the Society of St. Peter at their formation, and now what the Vatican has reneged on; forcing those poor priests to give Holy Communion in the hand and concelebrating "Nervous Order" Masses. That order was founded only because of the existence of SSPX. I now hear that some St. Peter priests are so disappointed, they're seeking refuge with the SSPX. May God bless the Pope and the SSPX.

Latin Mass can never be outlawed. Last year, a nation consisting of Auberjon(Sp?) chose Latin as their native language. Many are Catholics.
Obviously, they will say their masses in Latin--their native language.

Latin is a dead language. The legitimacy of the Mass is not dependent on its language. To make it so would be to delegitimize the Mass.
