When I point a gun at someone, it does not mean that it will fire. There is a significant threat of harm, just as with the use of hard drugs by your neighbor.

The phrase you are looking for is "precipitous act." Brandishing a weapon is a precipitous act directed towards someone else. If I point my pistol at you, then you are rightful to fear for your life. I don't have to pull the trigger for a crime to have been committed. This is wrong, this is an example of assault, this is a crime.

However, some of your other examples are less clear.

If you don't fear crime related to prostitution or drug use in your neighborhood, in what tangible way would your neighborhood be deteriorated if prostitution or drug use existed there?
You're not being straight. Either you resent the stereotypical flotsam and jetsam that accompanies "prostitution" and "drug use," like dilapitated houses, syringes on the sidewalks, loud music at 3 AM, etc., etc. or you don't. If you don't, how can you claim your neighborhood is deteriorated in any way? For all you know, a high-class incall service could be operating in that nice colonial across the street. It's happened in suburban New Jersey.

Ultimately, Libertarianism is a philosophy, not a form of government. Start talking about the realities of politics and its adherents’ eyes glaze over. Suggest compromise and watch them go ballistic. It’s almost a religious thing.

Excellent. Take the one Republican leader who really rubs libertarians the wrong way: Rudy Giuliani. He concentrated on non-violent crimes such as vagrancy, prostitution, pan-handling, etc. The result? A dramatic drop in violent crime, a populace that feels more secure, one the feels free to walk the streets, tourists that feel free to tour NYC, cabbies that feel free to drive to more neighborhoods, citizens who feel free to go to Central Park without harassment. Real freedom for the majority as a result of common sense, not imaginary freedom for a select few deviants as a result of a philosophy.
