Freeper discovers amazing connection. Lieberman's largest contributor is Enrons largest creditor

Morgan Chase and Citigroup. <Enron reported in its court filing yesterday that Citigroup's Citibank unit is its largest unsecured creditor, with two loans totaling $3 billion.

Before you continue with this, you may want to consider that Enron contributed 2 million dollars to the Bush campaign. You must then apply the same yardstick to Bush, and I do not see any wrongdoing on Bush's part other than to receive a campaign contribution. It would have to be proven that special favors were granted.
Agreed. That should be the yardstick.

So far, there have been no special favors revealed, or specific actions taken by Bush. However, in Lieberman's case, he has taken action which could be quite beneficial to his contributor. Already, that is one step worse than anything they have on Bush.

The Enron problem is far greater than campaign contributions. The culprits are the accountancy firm and greedy top executives.
Agreed here. The campaign contributions are pretty meaningless- except that they seem to have provoked troubled Joe to start an inquiry at taxpayer expense.

As one who has sat on creditor's commitees of large corporate bankruptcies: you are exactly right. Citigroup will be the 800 pound gorilla for many different reasons, and Lieberman can significantly influence the manner in which the bankruptcy proceeds by choosing his committee's targets (and headlines)carefully. Make no mistake: if Citigroup cannot work a good resolution and recover much of its money, its legacy and stock price will be as formidable as clinton's.

If Joe were honorable he'd recuse himself. But what he wants, of course, is a platform for his 2004 run (which we all know would be a pathetic joke).

This is great information. Now we just have to get it to the people who are actually interesting in reporting.

Lieberman does not have very sound judgment. He ran with Gore didn't he? Do you also recall how he changed many of his positions in order to do so?

He has been clamoring to restore his former stature with his mug all over the place. He is also demonstrating, by this latest action, that he thinks he is back in the Clinton admin where he can push the envelope.

From what I have witnessed about the Bush admin is that nothing slips by them. I predict Lieberman will end up with more than a dozen eggs on his face, just like Daschle.

"The worst thing that is going to erupt from all of this is that we are going to have to listen to McCain beat his gums, again, about CFR."

When McCain stops taking campaign money first then maybe I could see his argument.

"I wonder how deep McCain is involved in this scandal."

There was an article on the arizona republic today that stated that of all of our federal office holders McCain was the one who got the most in campaign money from Enron.

Hee hee. I love it. Once again the most dishonorable member of the US Senate finds himself in the middle of a controversy. Thanks for the information. I just haven't heard a peep of that from the TV news.

I am really sick of this guilt-by-association crap. If you know of documented wrongdoing by Lieberman or Bush put it out front, otherwise let's stop this childish association games. This rule should be applied by the media as well.

Your wish is a classic case of "if everyone would just not do it we would all be able to focus on the facts." Sorry to disappoint you but it does not work that way.

You can already see the Dems on the hunt to pin Enron on Bush. They are not going to let up just becuase you cry foul. They might agree to let up but no sooner than you back down will they spring back on the attack.

So, in this case and in many others, offense is the best defense.

Lieberman should resign for his part in the Enron scandal.

Stanky catch indeed. I've got two letters I'll be posting Monday for Joe & Waxman, after I send them around DC. This is truly getting to be some fun.

Thanks. I was, then got a real job. I wrote it while thinking of Tim Russert, although I don't think Tim will bring himself to ask it of any Dems. Who knows, he might surprise us before this is over.
