[history]
NEW YORK A man staying in a hotel overlooking the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 was charged with perjury Friday after denying he knew anything about a radio in his room that can monitor conversations between pilots.

I've now heard the he has admitted that the radio is his.
Who else was he going to blame? The maid? The hotel manager?

Speaking of being a moron, for this guy not to skip the country right after 9/11, and to hang around long enough to reclaim his property in December, has to rank with the '93 WTC bomber insisting on demanding a refund of his deposit for the rental truck.
Most of these guys are small fries who don't get paid much, if at all. He probably thought that there was little risk in going back for the radio and that he could sell it for a profit. What an aquamaroon. His name alone registered at the hotel -- so close to the WTC site -- set off immediate alarm bells with the FBI.

Here is my theory, for what it's worth:
The guy used the radio to help the pilots get their direction. Once the planes hit the WTC, he locked passport and radio up for safekeeping and sat back to watch the show, perhaps even taking photos.
Unexpectedly, however, the buildings collapsed totally. He was forced to flee with the rest of the people in that area, leaving his passport and the radio behind. (Remember, bin Laden said that they only expected the UPPER stories to collapse.)
Without a passport, he couldn't very well leave the country. He couldn't go to the Egyptian embassy and request another one without being investigated. That is why he waited and then tried to claim it.

Interesting theory. Of course, under the circumstances he might have been wiser to have lain low and to try to contact somebody in a radical mosque.

Maybe there is more evidence...Yes, a lot more. For starters, the cockpit recording of the plane that went down in Pennsylvania and the abrupt takeoff of Air Force One.

There have to be hundreds is not thousands of sleeper terrorists just waiting for their marching orders. I'm pretty sure there were "weird" goings on all over the country. I'm far from NY or DC and there was a Middle Eastern guy checked into a hotel room here --alone for about 4 nights. He requested that no cleaning ladies come to clean his room, he requested to use a toilet plunger at some point but did not want the staff to help him. He checked out on Sept 10. The FBI was here questioning the staff about him and what they saw.

QUICK! CALL the PC POLICE! He should go free on this technicality! He was...PROFILED! How unfair to moslems!

Yes, you're damn right he was profiled, in my opinion ... and there's a good reason for it: All of the men implicated in this plot were young Arabs. Not to rock anybody's sensibilities -- bunch of pansy whiners -- but 3000 of our citizens were turned into corpses at the WTC. Frankly, I could care less that Moslems' *feelings* were hurt...

Their contempt for us/our society leads to them doing things like trying to get a deposit back on a van you used in a criminal bombing! ('93). Not the sharpest scimitar in the sharia...

Let us not forget the Egyptian busted in the hotel overlooking the C.D.C. Had 15 fraudulent credit cards, spotting scope, scanner. Happened around Nov 20th, haven't heard anything since.

Those who oppose the govt. doing anything about terrorists won't blame themselves when the next attack comes. They will say, "See, all these restrictions of rights didn't help."
OR they will say, "The govt did not take the right precautions."
No matter what happens, those complaining about Ashcroft will never admit they were wrong.

(the radio) was found in Room 5101 at the Millennium Hilton Hotel... Higazy arrived in the United States on a student visa and checked into the hotel on Aug. 27. He was scheduled to check out on Sept. 25 from his room in a corner of the hotel with a view of the trade center So he was coming for 29 days. The EXACT middle day was Sept. 11. He arrived 2 weeks before 9/11 and would leave 2 weeks after 9/11.

Would it KILL these guys (the author(s) of this story) to list the make (manufacturer) and model number of this 'aviation radio' that was found? Also, what frequency was set in when the radio was discovered? Were there frequency "presets", and if so, what were they? Do any of these frequencies match the frequencies in the WTC plane radios when they were crashed? Do any of them match the NY ARTC frequencies or common military frequencies? Did they swab the mike for DNA?
