Crowds are flocking to Indian temples to see a Muslim baby with a 'tail' who is believed to be the reincarnation of a Hindu god.

The 11-month-old boy has been named Balaji or Bajrangbali, another name for monkey-faced Lord Hanuman.

He is reported to have a 4in 'tail' caused by genetic mutations during the development of the foetus.

Iqbal Qureshi, the child's maternal grandfather, is taking Balaji from temple to temple where people offer money to see the boy.

Mr Qureshi says the baby has nine spots on his body like Lord Hanuman and showed them to journalists, reports Indian newspaper The Tribune.

There have been other cases of babies born with tails. A report appeared in The New England Journal of Medicine in 1982 by Dr Fred Ledley.

His paper entitled 'Evolution and the Human Tail' concerned a baby born with a 2in growth on its back.

Even the heathens it seems will be part of the one world religion!

I don't think this is ever going to happen.
The various supernaturalists tend to hate each other too much to ever join together.

My comments were:

This occurs rarely, but the retaining of a caudal appendage (in this case, I'm not sure if it is one judging on the position).....

yes, it would be a "throwback" if vertebral structures WERE present.

Saaay...his grandpa making money off of the baring of the lil' dood's backside is fine now. What about when he's 17 or 18 years old? He'll have to show his arse to profit from his "tail". Hmmm. I guess that would be okay, since we have Eminem, Britney, and others showing their posteriors to make a living here.

Is it me or does that 'tail' look like a really long finger?

Perhaps the child's father made a deal with the devil. You know how the devil always gives you what you ask for but does it in a way that sucks. Perhaps the father wished for a "well endowed" son :-)

Spin Bifada, I gues; the spine develops ouside the body. Sad they are exploiting the child. I hope Hillary doesn't get any ideas of making money offkids. Oops, too late.

Thank you for the flag! That poor child, the tail is the least of his problems now. No wonder a Hindu god has a tail, you all don't want to read the Queen-Horse Copulation Ritual of the Asvamedha Yajna (little known fact of Hinduism) on a full stomach.

When he grows up he'll be the first adolescent in history who has to walk down the halls in school covering his front AND his back with books.

The website you have cited is a well-known anti-Hindu propoganda site. The "facts" presented there are twisted and deliberate misinterpretations of a demented mind. I don't know what the author's reason is but it's just sick. I'm disgusted that people would go to such lengths to debase a religion that neither evangelises nor treats others as less than equal.

I'm also rather disappointed by most of the comments in this thread (not that anyone will care for my opinion I guess). A child like this, born in wretched circumstances, in ANY economically backward area in the world - be it in the villages of India or the backwaters of Arkansas - would have been treated the same way, regardless of creed or religion. How on earth else can you explain what happened to the Elephant Man??? Can anyone answer that? I know it's easy to put down an alien religion - after all, what have Hindus done for you lately - but try to see how little this has to do with the religion of the people concerned.

I sincerely hope someone reads this....okay, you can start attacking me now... ;((

His parents wouldn't happen to be related and/or escapees from the set of the movie 'Deliverance'?
