New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, a loyal water boy for pro-abortion groups, has launched a crackdown on crisis pregnancy centers. This is a direct assault on the front lines of compassionate conservatism.
An estimated 3,000 crisis pregnancy centers offer abortion alternatives nationwide. Most are non-profit and affiliated with Catholic charities. Radical feminists, who push abortion as the only acceptable choice, call these life-affirming pregnancy centers "deceptive." The National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL) sells a guide to sabotaging the centers' missionary work. Spitzer, a Democrat, promised NARAL three years ago that his tax-subsidized "reproductive rights unit," staffed by abortion activists, would carry on the campaign.
He delivered. According to Chris Slattery, the founder of Expectant Mother Care, which provides the most comprehensive crisis pregnancy services in New York City, Spitzer issued subpoenas last Friday to pregnancy resource centers in Staten Island and Manhattan demanding documents related to their services. Spitzer's office refused to provide me with any information on his legal maneuvering, but more subpoenas are expected.
Spitzer's move "is a triple attack on the First Amendment -- on our freedom of assembly, religion and speech," Slattery told me. Why now? "This is a politically motivated witch hunt in an election year for Eliot Spitzer," Slattery said. According to online campaign finance data, Spitzer has received $2,900 from New York's NARAL political action committee over the past three years.
This is not an effort to protect the public. It's payback to the abortion monopoly. NARAL wants the government to crush growing competition by private, faith-based pregnancy centers that are winning over women's hearts and saving babies' lives.
NARAL and its allies accuse the centers of "luring" women under false pretenses. But, as required by law, the advertising of crisis pregnancy centers makes clear that they do not offer abortions or abortion referrals. With typical condescension, NARAL leaders argue that anxious women thumbing through the Yellow Pages might not understand the plain disclaimer. Interesting how these feminist champions of letting women control their bodies have such little trust in women's minds.
Crisis pregnancy center volunteers assist their clients not by might nor by power, but by the Lord's spirit (Zechariah 4:6). These centers provide free pregnancy tests and discuss all options, including adoption, abortion and parenthood. Unlike abortion mill propagandists who refer to unborn babies as "uterine material," crisis pregnancy counselors are upfront about abortion's physical and psychological damage.
The centers also help expectant mothers of all races, religions and income levels with a wide range of services -- from shelter, nutritional guidance, and parenting classes, to drug abuse, AIDS, and domestic violence counseling, legal assistance, adoption, and post-abortion therapy. An increasing number of crisis pregnancy centers are converting to licensed medical clinics, which offer ultrasound and Doppler screenings, and other health services. The Life Choice Project, sponsored by the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA), provides ultrasound equipment and training, technical assistance and insurance to such clinics.
In New York City, Expectant Mother Care offers 3-D sonogram technology that provides a powerfully persuasive window to the womb. The center has also teamed up with the director of obstetrics and gynecology at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in the Bronx -- where there are more abortions than live births -- to provide prenatal and postnatal care, pro-life counseling and hospital referrals.
NARAL and company are doing their best to discredit those who promote a culture of life through peaceful means. NARAL's California chapter recently succeeded in shutting down one Bay Area crisis pregnancy program, First Resort, which had teamed with Kaiser Permanente and boasted a 99.3 percent client satisfaction rate.
In New York and elsewhere, the abortion lobby will continue to drag crisis pregnancy centers through costly court proceedings. Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood and the government-backed abortion empire continue their business of massive human disposal fraudulently marketed as a fully informed "choice." Where are those who pay lip service to compassionate conservatism when the movement's foot soldiers need help?
You are absolutely right. The pro-abortion movement -- it is a misnomer to call them "pro-choice" because they really DON'T give women a choice because they don't give them all the information they need to make an informed decision -- are deceptive liars.
Crisis pregnancy centers are the compassionate alternative to abortion, but they sometimes don't prevent women from obtaining an abortion. If a woman REALLY wants an abortion after going to a CPC, they can go right down to Planned Parenthood and get one. What does the NYAG think CPC's do? Lock pregnant women in a cell throughout pregnancy to stop them from killing their babies?
Obviously, CPC's are successful otherwise the pro-death bunch wouldn't be going after them.
God bless CPC's, their employees and volunteers, all the women who are seeking an alternative to abortion, and especially the unborn babies.
Have you ever heard of any other business that kills 1/3 of its market share?
How about the teachers' unions who fully support PP's agenda? Talk about stupid! And they wonder why so many Americans think our kids get a lousy education. The teachers don't even know that they are ruining their job prospects with their political agenda!
They know what they're doing.
The turn-around rate for abortion-minded women at CPC's through counseling alone is pretty low. The turn-around rate for abortion-minded women at CPC's who see their babies on the ultrasound monitor is very high.
I have inside information, but I don't want to give the exact figures in case any abortionists are lurking.
Yes. The abortion rate is dropping, and CPC's that offer ultrasound are a contributing factor. PP knows this and has probably been planning this litigation for some time. Unfortunately for them, they have no case.
NYC is 'ground zero' in the war against unborn children. The live birth/killed baby ratio increases in proportion to distance from the city. It's our little concentration camp.
But, but, but... abortion rarely happens unless it is a rape or endangers the life of the mother!
/sarcasm>
Oh yea...
Take one guess what NYers as a whole intend on doing about this guy?
Re-elect him by a landslide margin.
...sickening but true; and, oh-so New York, eh Hillary?
Because they aren't "pro-choice". That's a lie; a rhetorical dodge meant to make shredding innocent kids acceptable to mainstream America.
They're about as "pro-choice" on abortion as Ford Motor Company is "pro-choice" about your choice of automobile. Mothers who choose to let their babies live are, to them, potential profits lost. The so-called "pro-choice" people aren't "pro" that choice, at all. The only "choice" they favor is abortion.
I cannot, however, grasp the idea that seems to be prevalent in New York that persuading a woman not to kill her child is somehow bad. That boggles my mind.
It seems to me that they're blowing their cover, and revealing themselves as the blood-thirsty infanticidal kooks we've always known exist just under the surface.
But, I guess things are different in New York.
Here are some 'facts'. If you aren't a 'Life-Chooser', what are you?
I too.
"I cannot, however, grasp the idea that seems to be prevalent in New York that persuading a woman not to kill her child is somehow bad. That boggles my mind."
And that specific aspect was the only reason I resonded to this post.
You nailed it.
Abortion is for now legal; so, I'm of the belief we pro-lifers -- in order we remain within the law while true to our beliefs -- must change the heart of those who'd seek this procedure & insodoing murder their unborn child.
But Mr. What'shis name here seems to want to remove my only legal tack for dealing with this infanticide horror.
Now lemme tell ya; I got a problem with that.
"It seems to me that they're blowing their cover, and revealing themselves as the blood-thirsty infanticidal kooks we've always known exist just under the surface."
To you & I they're doing precisely that; but then, we're the chorus, eh?
Watch how our demonic, twisted, convoluted Lamestream media frames this thing.
By the time they're finished screwing around & redefining everything there is to know about this matter?
Their candidate, Mr. What'shisname will be re-elected by landslide proportions.
That is why I asked Hillary if she agreed with my assessment of the terrain?
"But, I guess things are different in New York."
Oh boy; ya said a mouthfull there, my friend.
..."...but over there in Barrytown they do things very strange" la-la~ {g}
(pssst; the sage writings of steely dan)
...I mean what's not to like about win-win AND then, win again!
:o)
